Anyone buying bulk yet? I'm thinking about getting a bigger bulk tank and stocking up. I think out here I could buy ahead for about 2 or 3 years and wouldn't have a problem. $1.50 fuel is tempting....

I filled with the last of my prepay so there are (or
were until I used some) 2000 gallons ready for
spring. I isolated the pump tank and treated that
500 gallons. That will be more than enough for
choring until spring weather. With fuel doing what it
has I'm not sure I'm going to worry about prepay for
a while. I quit letting them deliver gas because it
was so much higher than pump price. I just fill the
transfer tank in the pickup with 100 gallons every
once in a while and put it in the standing barrel.

I just took my 500 gallon tank to have it sandblasted and painted, which produced holes in the bottom near some brackets. I went to purchase a new tank, and the co-op manager talked me into a new 300 gallon tank (I use only about 400 gallons per year) He said the fuels today are not as stable as in the past, and I would be better off storing less fuel on-farm during the year and having more frequent, smaller deliveries. Less convenient for me, not any more expensive as far as I can tell, unless the price changes, of course. The cost of the tank was about $200 less. I'm no expert on fuels, so take it FWIW...

Just filled with winter diesel here, $.81 CAN per liter. That's $2.20 US per US gallon.
About 20 percent less than last year.

I can fill my 1000 gallon tank again now with no worries,, when it was over 4 bucks a gallon that really hurt,,,,,, I have increased tractor hors again now as well,,, really hate to see friends here hurting that work in our oil fields though, seen it many times here in my life, boom then bust,,, I sure wish tires and oil would go down a bit,,, that part of retail never brings cost down only goes up with every crude oil price
cnt

When the rebound occurs . The price will go high and fast . If those twits in the Middle East manage to get a major war going.

Even a minor war would make a mess out of things. No one is going to send a super tanker into the Persian Gulf when any yahoo with a RPG can blow it sky high.

Be careful about that, algae can sometimes grow in diesel fuel if it sets too long. Large data centers and other mission critical facilities that need to store large quantities of diesel for their generators usually have elaborate filter systems and continuously circulate their fuel to prevent the algae growth. As a general rule, I recommend owners of normal generators size storage tanks for no more than 24 hours run time, so their weekly half hour test burn through the fuel before algae has a chance to grow.

Fortunately we have low humidity here. I have used diesel fuel that sat in a tractor for 19 years and it looked fine. I have tractors that have not been started in 5 years and I know they will fire right up if I put a battery in them. I would be concerned if I lived on the west side of the state, tho.

i have only had a 300 gallon tank for yeats with diesel i just got a 1000 gallon with thpump and all for $50 dollars so i am gunna get some diesl in it and put gas in the other or maybe the other way around more gasers the dirsels at this point
