new poster but have always read posts all kinds of time as I had a hip put in dec 1, and again on dec 8, from the first one dislocating twice in that first week, was just wondering anybody elses experience now I have to wear a brace cant put no weight on the new joint,

My late wife also had her first hip replaced. Both times they broke the bone where the replacement all went into. Last time they screwed and wire a metal plate to her leg. Very painful, long recovery time. Hurt when it got cold.

so far I have no choice as before I could hardly walk I am 58 so a little early but have been milking cows since I was 7 years old am very skiddish about this as when it dislocated I had to get the ambulance out twice as I could not move when it happened as I was sitting in a chair both times/ thanks fro any replies.

Had mine done on Nov 8th. No problems. The real important thing was to remember not to bend the hip over 90 degrees. That could pop it out. Stopped the Percocet after the first week. (They were too good). Pretty much back to normal now. Can put my shoes and socks on like before and am not using a cane or walker. Be sure to do your physical therapy. Did you try and overdo? What does your surgeon say?

obviously the doctor said it was my fault both times but he did say its done in the past, could have twisted don't know, but everybody I had talked to before has had good luck, people said easier than knee, have an appointment on jan 14, sure I will be stuck with this brace for a while, one thing I have noticed is all the nerve pain I had before seems to be gone, so I didn't have much to lose anyway, should of done it sooner but you try all the other things chiropractor, supplements shoe lifts and a bunch of other things

Hi ,I had my left hip replaced this past august , lucky it was after wheat harvest so I was good and did not do anything I was not to do and was back on the tractor end of October . Very important to follow the exercises the nurse has for you, they strengthen the muscles that hold the hip together and yes do not bend . Good luck

My wife had no choice either. The ball part of her hip had worn flat due to an infection she got after my last child was born. She was just 36, the youngest the Dr had seen on the table.

I am disabled & unable to walk. Both hips are bone on bone & I had the left one done last Feb. They put in a locking type joint. No problems even after falling down a few times.

I had both mine replaced, one on 2-26, the other on 3-5 one year later. Was back stacking bales on the wagon in June both times. Caught a staph infection in the first one 2 1/2 years after. Nine days in the hospital, 2 surgeries and IV antibiotics for months. Really knocked the H out of me. I would still recommend it. Without that surgery I would have been in a wheelchair the last four years.

It's great to live in a country with great doctors, and hospitals. I'm going in Tuesday for a MRI on my right hip. I can be walking fine, then without warning, I get a very sharp pain in my groin area. After a few minutes the pain is gone. The pain is so bad, it makes me say things I don't normally say. Stan

Had my first hip in "09, the second one last June. Both turned out great, last one quicker recovery since the current operation is simpler. Most important- do your exercises!!! And you"ll feel it if you do something stupid, too soon.

You have to follow instructions! When my wife had both hips replace the doctor was very careful to instruct her to 1)not cross her legs and 2)not pull her leg up to her chest real tight. The new joint is made of porous titanium and sufficient time has to be allowed for the metal to be incorporated into the body. I tell her she is becoming part of the Borg.

I had one replaced in April of this last year, so far so good. I could hardly walk on it at times and it would "catch" sometimes and hurt so bad I would just about drop. I had issues with it as a kid. At 33 I did what i was told and had a pretty good recovery. It is still a little tender to lay on the floor on that side when playing with the kids, but I think that is because of scar tissue.

Stan, Marilyn had the same pain as you a couple of years ago. She mentioned this sharp pain in the groin area to my orthopedist when she was sitting in the examining room with me while the doc was drawing fluid out of my knee. To make a long story short a few months later she had a new hip. Now that hip feels like it's young again. The other one is stabbing at her pretty bad but she wants to wait till next August when she is on Medicare to have it replaced. She has seven months to go till August 1st and I don't think she will be able to hold out till then. Good luck with your hip. Jim

so got a ride to town to get haircut then stopped at the home of the ambulance driver that hauled me in local community every body knows everybody, told me that on the way in that night he drove me in was talking to the drug paramedic that dislocation is not normal got to be something else going on said to driver that he meaning me is going to have a tough road ahead, so you cant find out anything from surgeon so what can you do? all he says its in the past and I guess he is right but like I said I got more of an explanation what was wrong with our magnum from the local dealer than I got from the doctor, another local doctor told me the one that did mine is one of the best in the area and does a lot of the difficult ones and a lot of the revisions, just wish they were a little more chatty.
