Bleeding Brakes Revisited

Hello,

I use A hose and a can with some fluid in it. Hose is set below the fluid Pushing slow is all is required. Bubble appear below the fluid. Letting the brake pedal go sucks fluid back, no air. The color tip on the clear hose is a fitting. It came with a master cylinder that I replaced last year. Same Idea, and doing the master cylinder on the bench , sure makes the rest of the job a lot faster. It has worked for me for many moons.......

That's what I usually do but I am usually fixing old stuff! I started out fixing the brakes on my vw bug when I was 13 this way and still do my old beetles this way. I do the grain trucks the same as well. Brake issues with the new pickups have usually been rather invasive so I let my guy in town do them.

Hello dr sportster,

By the way just remembered that I too have a couple of doctors degrees. Co-workers use to call me dr. Detoit as in Detroit Diesel, while the plant manager called me Diesel Doctor.
That was back in 1995, now I'm starting to feel old!
Anyhow, next time you need to bleed brakes, use a piece of vacuum hose, it will stay on the fitting just fine. You can also go to Home Depot and get a length of AC condensate drain hose. That is what I use. Not many vacuum hoses on disel don't you know!
Happy bleeding, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I like using clear vinyl hose so I can see the air bubbles. After I connect it to the bleeder screw I run the hose upward so any air can quickly move upward. This keeps any air away from the bleeder screw.
On the older IH trucks we use to fill the wheel cylinders up before installing them. This cut down a lot of time bleeding the system.

Last winter I bought a hand vacuum pump in a kit that included a plastic canister for bleeding brakes. I tried it out on the 79 Power Wagon after I put new brakes on it and it did the job. That old pickup is easy to bleed though. Might not work as well on other vehicles.

I have another but did not want to clean out from under the cabinet look'N for it... BTW on a master I block off the outlet ports and pump till no bubbles are seen at the inlet ports. Zero loss of fluid
