Got a cream puff today

Our New Years tradition is to go to the Harley Gerdes consigmment sale it was pretty well full of cold folks milling around.

We went to find a good running gear. It was downhill from there. We ended up with a 27 foot field cultivator, two running gears (with boxes currently), a Winpower pto generator and welder for $200, a DoEeze (sp?) pickup bed that I am going to cut up and use as Crick crossing, and the cream puff. A 1975 Ford grain truck with 20,000 miles. It has a 16 foot Giant bed and had one owner. It's like a time capsule. We will likely use it for grain since it is bigger and the hoist is faster the old 58 and 56 can be relegated to to dirt work. It's nice to have a straight truck when you are finishing a field or someone has to wait in line and the semis are full. We have been using the 58 but it holds just shy of s combine tank full. That's annoying. It's way too nice to beat up - even if it is Robins egg blue.

Funny you should mention this, I bought a one owner 75 Dodge 500 this fall. 40000 original miles, new steer tires, 90% rears, 15 1/2' steel box and hoist, v-8 and 4 and 2....$1500. Drives and shifts like a new one. Red with a red and white box, cleaned up nice.

I bought this 1979 F350 two yeas ago with 15,000 miles. It has always been stored inside - still smells new inside. You'll enjoy your "new" Ford.

This one didn't even have any cleaning necessary. The original owner had died and it set in the shed for four years. It had a miss when I left the auction but I filled it up with gas and by the time I made it home 40 miles it was running smooth as silk. God love all of those nasty fuel additives. Now I have to rearrange. This one can't set out more than a day. It would be a travesty.

I can tell already I wish it had the 391. It has the 330 and will be slow with 250 bushels of beans. It's geared pretty low, though. I wouldn't want to run it more than 60 mph.

It was rather odd driving it home. Every bridge I crossed nothing in the cab rattled and the bias ply tires didn't feel square. That power steering is butter compared to the 56 and 58. The gas gauge even works right!!

I know whatcha mean about no rattles. Back in 2009 every time I went to the barber shop I noticed a red IH 1600 loadstar (1974 model) sitting beside a mans house, never was moved or driven. The barber said the old man would buy but never ever sell anything however he was sick and not doing well. I would ask about the truck often when getting my hair cut, in the summer of 2010 I found out the man died and his wife and son had to sell his equipment to pay some debts. After several people said I would never buy the truck I did buy it in September of 2010, made an offer of $800 and got it. It needed little stuff done to it and needed paint, had a good 14' dump bed with a harsh hoist. The speedometer wasn't working when I got it so I have no idea on the miles but it is like yours, no rattles and everything works good on it. Funny thing is that it drives and rides as good as my pickup, it has been to Tennessee and all over town. I still use it often to haul stuff and help a guy cut silage every year. Sometimes persistence pays off!!

No, I saw it but next time I looked it had been passed. It looked pretty decent. Tractors there can be so hit and miss.

They must have heard about that. The last one I went to was mostly no sales and by the time I got to the end row there were a dozen of us left and I STOLE a good stack of unused square steel tubing. This time Harley was in the truck telling them to hurry up constantly. I stayed until just about the end and was home by 2. I think I only saw about three no sales but those weren't the kinds of things I was after anyway.

I enjoy reading your posts. I grew up in Lyndon. Harley Gerdes came to Lyndon after I left, so I don't know him. Lots of entertainment value at a live auction.

I didn't stick around to long. If what I'm interested in isn't in the first couple rows I usually just forget it. To many no sales just gets on my nerves. I wanted to see the round tub and runway sell but it was going to be some of the last to sell.
