Re-purposed combination lock

Use combo lock to keep track of how many hours I have on tank of gas. After 10 hrs I know I need to add 5 gallons. Same with my kaw mule. Each use a half gallon an hour.

Dennis, I have no idea how many hours are on this terramite. I just recently bought it. Replaced the hour meter. The other one was broken. The Kohler engine was replaced with a 20 hp honda. My other terramite has 1650 hrs on the kohler command. Good engine, doesn't burn oil but it uses about twice the fuel, one gallon per hour. If I ever blow the kohler, I will replace it with a honda.

188.4hrs is the last time I fueled up today.

If it doesn't have a fuel gauge it gets a paint stirring stick in the tool box. I don't usually (or ever I guess) do jobs with a machine that doesn't have a gauge that would use a whole tank. I do have quite a few paint sticks in use, though.

Blowing the kohler is a sure bet! Lol, been threw 6 of them on 2 different lawn mowers 27 hp commands, mowers have a combined 8000 hours or a little over that on them.

My hour meter is my fuel gauge. 10 hrs on terremite is half full. 10 hrs on mule, 2.5 gallons left. BTW, mule fuel gauge is under seat and have to get off seat to see, BPIA.

I use a ball peen hammer with notches carved in the handle at 5 gallon intervals.

Good idea George!

I've got a piece of Romex electric cable wound around whatever's handy on the tractor- straighten it out and check the fuel level with it. Then wrap it around something again until next time.

(quoted from post at 19:58:22 12/31/15) Heck, I just stop and pick up a stick. Stick it in the tank and see how much gas is left.
That can put little bits of fiber in the tank that eventually can stop up the fuel outlet.

None of my tractors or skidsteer have a gas gauge. But a simple stick and 15 seconds is a heck of a lot easier than cutting unnecessary holes in the machine.
