paralyzed Tahoe.

I posted here a few days ago about my 99 5.7 Tahoe that started and idled but did not go into gear, and engine would not spool up with accelerator application.
AllanNE said to change the tranny filter. I checked the fluid level hot and cold , it was perfect. The fluid was clear and smelled good. But what the hay? I did some reading on some Chev/Tahoe forums. Seems like filter probs on that model are frequent. Many advising ANNUAL change.
Got the pan off and pulled the filter. Hung it on a peg. Almost nothing ran out. Some kind of obstruction. New Wix filter and 5 qts fluid. Lets hope this seals the deal.
Thanks Allen.

How would a plugged trans filter keep the engine from speeding up when you press on the accellerator? Or did I mis-interpret "engine would not spool up"? Seems like a hail Mary repair that will leave you stranded.

Electronics(CPU) and sensors interact to prevent operation when pressures are way off (best idea I have) Jim

Trouble is, a '99 isn't "fly by wire", and the 'puter (no matter how confused or PO'ed it may be) can't stop the throttle butterfly from being pulled open mechanically by the throttle cable!

How can you explain that away, Jim?

4L60E transmission in a Tahoe has reverse and third hydraulically, without any electronic interaction. I would bet it has a fuel pump starting to fail, enough volume to idle, but not enough to accelerate. Probably find out soon enough.

I wouldn't go forward either. Just plumb neutral.
Is there a kit to install a drain plug in the tranny pan. Mine doesn't have one. I do have the hd tran with stepped pan, and the 4:10 gears. Those are the two reasons I drive the old fella.

This may sound dumb but had a friend that had a Tahoe that did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad valve stem in the tire, Had one of those that detected air pressure and when we change the bad valve stem out with a regular one it would not move. It would start and run at an idle would not rev up or go into gear or do anything else. This is one of the dumbest things I ever ran into and it turned into an $89 fix for a new valve stem with the senser in it and it fixed the problem. My sound dumb but its worth a look. Bandit

Someone is pulling your leg. I have plenty of TPM equipped vehicles come in my shop with standard valve stems and the light on. They run and drive just fine.
