Flooded and have lost a bunch of stuff

I have lived where I am since July of 1980 and have never seen it this bad. Lost the goat house with 4 goats in it and have no idea where it is. Lost to mini horses and do not know if they made it to high ground or if they are dead. Had 2 peahens in a cage and that cage it gone or under water. Chicken house has at least 2 if not 3 foot of water in it and I can not even get to it to open up the doors due to how fast the water is going. No TV due to the satellite dish has been pushed over so not aimed where it should be. Lumber pile the boy had to build his house is out in the middle of the field and hopefully will stay there till I can get to it. Even have a boat in the driveway which was out behind the house by the pond.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Has the rain subsided? We've only had three inches but it is still coming down pretty hard. Don't get swept away trying to save things.

WOW ... hang in there .. how is the house ? how much rain did you get ?? or did this come from the hills ? not sure how your place lays with the land around you ... are you towards the bottom of a hill ?

SORRY for so many questions ... will be thinking of you .... mark

Rich,

I just checked the weather service, it looks like the second wave is heading in this afternoon through tonight.

Be careful.

I live in bottom lands that have only flood close to this bad twice in the 35 plus years I have been here. In July of this year it was almost this bad and back in 1986 it was bad but not this bad. I put the house where I believed to be ok because back in 1986 where it is was dry ground so the house is fine

There's a trough formed from Texas to the east coast, don't like the looks of that for where you are Rich, and I hope it breaks up. One one side is bitter cold, the other is warm and way above normal for this time of year. Hard to figure what's going to happen, just hope its not like that last conveyor system that ended up soaking SC for days, that was incredible, it never moved and stayed right on top of them, feeding in off the ocean.

I'm also sorry for your plight. Just don't get out in the water trying to save things. There's going to be he77 to pay with this storm. A lot of people killed and injured due to tornados, and flooding in the south. We are supposed to have blizzard condition tomorrow. The snow doesn't bother me as much as the high winds and cold temperatures do. Everyone hang on, because things are going to get bad this week.

Wow, you really caught it. Something like that is bad any time of year but I'm sure its worse now. Hope you can get things back together soon.

I send best wishes and hope the next hours find the home to be non mobile. Animals usually are OK unless trapped or tangled, again best wishes and speedy recovery. Jim

Sorry to here it all,I hope the animals made it to high ground. I can't even imagine what you are going thru.

The goats where in a building and do not know where that building is right now so likely to be dead. Little horses not sure at all since there pen is no more so who knows where they are or if they made it to high ground. I know they are not with the big horses so fear they did not make it

.............. and just where abouts is this?
I can't tell from the post, or from reading the replies.

Guess I'm not on here enough to know.

WOW! this is crazy bad weather for this time of year. Wishing you the best.
Up here we have 10" of snow coming tomorrow, but that is nothing to your flooding.

Bad thing is, is the temp are suppose to be going down in the next day or to and be in the 30s and I have way to much clean up to do with temps getting that cold it will be hard to get done

On modern view some of the folks places show.

No good time for flooding but the cold weather for sure makes the clean up worse! Yall got a ton of rain up there last night going by the radar picture. We did'nt get so much rain but had one tornado go west of me and one go east of me (by a wide margin so we are fine). We're so saturated that any rain over a quarter inch starts running on the surface. Hope you find your animals. They seem to find ways to survive.

old, so sorry to hear about your flooding! Don't put yourself at risk. There should be community help and rescue efforts underway to get to people like you in the flood areas.

Old, if I were closer, I would offer help immediately...that IS what we DO around here...

Can you post some pictures of this ..???

I know..the hardest thing do do is Nothing..but "Discretion is the Better part of Valor"....

In other words BE Careful and stay Safe...

Hope your animals make it and come home..

Is that Boat usable..?? It may come in handy when the worst has passed..

Ron.

Looks as if the "Worst" is over for you there..sounds like us in OH10 will keep getting heavy rain, turning colder to ice/snow..

Dang..I had hopes it would stay warm, then heat up in the Spring...!!!!

Well if I was in harms way yes but not for things like animals etc. Have not tried to get out of my driveway yet but will here in an hour or so and hope I can get out in my Geo Tracker instead of having to use the 4X4

I posted some pictures down in Tractor tales and will be taking more as the water level drops. I will have to rebuild the horse barn and the whole chicken pen fence is gone. Cannot even watch TV since the flood knocked the direct TV dish over and now no signal so can not even see what the news is saying

Hi Old Sorry to hear your sad news, I really hope you can find some, hopefully many of the missing animals safe to put your mind at rest. Given time you can rebuild much of the other stuff, But animals to a true farmer is the hardest loss there is to deal with, we went through a bad time with a hog truck near going over on it's side leaving here 3 winters ago. so know It's horrible not being able to do anything while watching things happen like this . Good luck Thinking of you and any others affected in your area at this difficult time.
Regards Robert

Well, the news is BAD, West of you.. Tx is a mess across/thru Amarillo..Dallas had those bad Tornadoes..

OKC is about to see the rain change to ice/snow..

NM has just declared a "State of Emergency"..

Lucky thing for you may be that the storm is heading more Easterly than North and you may not get as much rain ..but the cold temps are still on the way..

Very Cold temps it sounds like..

That was an EF4 Tornado in Dallas...11 killed..

3/4" Ice predicted OKC to Amarillo, 12" snow from there West into NM..

Major Power Outages predicted...

Man, if I had to be stuck somewhere, it would have to be at the "Big Texan" in Amarillo..!!

That 72 oz Steak always look SO GOOD..!!!

Ron..

Been reading a lot on floods sorry to hear.

Not much to do from here but offer some prayers and hope things get better fast.

If you are like me the whole world can be messed up but losing the critters bothers me the most, even if 'just a few chickens' something in my care it just bothers me.

Glad you are ok still and keep yourself safe. Lot of strange things happen in flooding and rushing water, stop and think what you are doing before you do....

Paul

Sorry to hear your plight Old. We are in blizzard conditions here in Friona and Muleshoe TX. Approximately 18 inches and still snowing hard. Winds 40 mph with gust to 50 or greater. Causing up to 10 foot drifts. Worst part is they are not prepared to handle this much snow this little town.

Sorry for your loss....They have had over 10 inches of rain in the Noel and Anderson,MO area with lots of flooding...Lots of the I-44 corridor has had from 5-10 inches with more coming...Be careful..

It,s good to hear that you and your family is safe.Does your insurance covers
any off your losses like your barns?hopefully it does. This will help you cover some off your losses.

Do not have insurance since to have it, it would cost me $1500 or more per year and I do not have the $$ to do so. Ya I would like to but at that price can not afford it

Temps here have been going down all day. Had to drag the little horses out of the barn after the water had gone down then drag them back in for over night. Going to get old doing that every day till I can get the fences back up

I'm sorry for your loss. You have lost much, don't lose your spirit! You can rebuild and replace things. Don't let the stupid people get you down. No one can predict a natural disaster. You have been there for a good long while and have never seen it so bad, so you couldn't prepare for this extreme disaster. Its not your fault! Like the old deacon in the church said, "it came to pass." The storm has came, it has passed, its time to rebuild.
Farm people and country people have to live where they can make a living and produce the food and commodities that the "prissy, sissy, elite, not-in-my-backyard-people" need to continue to live their prissy, sissy lives in their backyard.
Good Fortune!

Scott

Ya many places that have never had flood damage have had it this year. Like the car lot in Springfield that had new cars close to being under water.

Ya I placed my building such that they should not have had flood problems but did any how. Cannot do much about floods when you get 5-10 inches of rain in 24-48 hours

Ya most places as far south as you are do not have the equipment needed to deal with a snow like that. Plus most in areas like that do not have a clue how to drive in that stuff. Stay safe. I still remember people asking me how I could drive in snow and ice and I simply tell them I learned to drive in area where it was normal to have to drive in it. Shoot I went to school when we had a foot of new snow on the ground up in NE
