Skid loader mods...any ideas

Sitting here at Christmas, my father in law asked me to put a post on here for him. He has a bobcat 444 with an onan engine in it and would like to go to a transistorized system because he is constantly replacing breaker points and adjusting timing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the points have to be constantly adjusted and the timing corrected, something is loose or worn in the breaker box/plunger area.

AFAIK, the only type of EI that would readily work on that Onan twin would need to be triggered by the points, so you need to find out what in the breaker box area is causing the problem, and THEN you can add a point-triggered EI.

Take a look at the site below for point-triggered EI options for Onan and Kohler engines.

You might try Pertronix- their kits install inside the distributor, taking the place of the points and condenser. They say they have industrial applications, but you have to call a number and have some info at the ready. Link is to the page with that phone number.

How many cylinders does it have?? I have seen a simple chip you can install on the old lawn mower engine that may work but with out more info hard to say for sure.

the last onan that did those things to Me it had a broken tooth on the cam gear -- they are known for that around here -- when one more tooth goes it will need a tear down -- good luck !
