Seed catalogs

Got my first one of the season today. With it pushing 60 degrees here in western NY I don't know if they are 3 months early or 3 months late. For me seed catalogs are the first signs of spring - even if its only December.

I ordered my pumpkin, squash, and other seed for my Fall pumpkin stand Sunday. It was the last day for free shipping. I got it all today via UPS. I don't plant most of it until June first. So I guess I got it early enough.

Actually I order and pay for all my seed and Fertilizer before the end of the year for tax purposes. I ordered my Corn Seed the end of Sept. for a better price.

I just got my first vegetable seeds catalog from Sauder Farm Country Market, Elkton, KY. just a coupla days ago. I have not ordered from them before, but have heard good things about them..

I got one yesterday but not sure who the company is since I have never heard of them before. Jung seed company and boy are some of there prices way out there

Nothing to do with catalogs, but I was thinking today that I could PROBABLY plant wheat this weekend (if I wanted to) here in MI, and I bet it would grow just fine. Grass is growing in my yard and in a nearby field that was dug about a month ago.

I got three with very similar mailing addresses in Randolph, WI. To get seeds that I want would take three different shipping charges, Maybe the profit is in Shipping?

Got one yesterday, 2 about 3 weeks ago. All I can do anymore is look and wish I could be doing it.

There is a big price difference between "home gardener" catalogs and "commercial grower" catalogs. Most even give discounts for paying and ordering early, and sometimes they do run out of particular varieties. So I am trying to get some things ordered before Christmas. Believe it or not it will be time to start the tunnel tomato seeds in about 4 weeks here in southern Indiana. I am a small producer and probably spend about $2000 on sweetcorn and other vegetable seed each year.
