Welding gears together

I have two narrow helical cut gears that I am thinking about welding onto a common shaft to make a wider gear.

Ideas on this?

Bolt them together with critical accuracy to assure they are each pulling their share. Then weld or better yet key them to the shaft (maybe two keys) is much easier to repair. To align them place at least three machined cylinders (like roller bearings or dowel pins) into mesh with the teeth, and hold them in place with a hose clamp to force tooth alignment. Jim

I have the mating gear.

I plan to bore them to fit common bushing with a key for the pump shaft.

I could make up a jig to align all the gears and shafts, did not think about the clamps.

Approximate RPM these gears shall operate at?
Your best thoughts on HP these gears shall transmit?
Source of Lubrication,as in pressure or other?
Percentage of operating time these gears shall be in operation as compared to power source time operation?

I welded new centers in gears that I re-purposed for my 60 MFWD, I bored the ceters out and made the new hubs press fit into the gears then welded them in, moving side to side so they would not draw..
