Dan,

Are you still around? We've lost touch somehow.

If anyone knows Dan or knows of him, please let me know. He is from Lac La Biche, Alberta, Canada

I'm from Alberta.
I looked it up and found 1 person from Lac La Biche by that name with a phone number.

Hope this helps: Dan Mischuk 780-623-4844

I don't know the guy, but the show "Highway Thru Hell" had been filming a lot of their epesodes in the Lac La Biche area. Apparantly the oil and gas industry has been booming there. (no pun intended) Maybe you will see him on TV. HeHe.

The oil boom has come to a crashing halt in Alberta with thousands now unemployed. Friends in Lac La Biche say it like a ghost town now. Lots of restaurants with no business and lots of empty hotel rooms. Would like to hear from Dan as well as we knew him when we lived there in the early eighties. Leon

Howdy Stan and Guys, yes we are still around and well, things in regard to oil have slowed down alright but not completely dead, there is some pipeline work and is kicking into gear. Realestate is also slowed. On the other hand we had 4 local Classic Wheels shows this past summer at local events, one of the nicest cars a buddy brought was a Barrett-Jackson mopar bought in 2014 (Beauty) Personally my work is not directly connected to the oilpatch so in that way we're ok. Still have your Orchard model Leon? Hope things are well with you Stan, I lurk but time seems to be at a premium sometimes. Might slip into retirement as least semi. Dan

Dan,
I live in central NY and the only reason that I replied on this thread was because of the reality show on the weather channel. I'm just courious if Davis Heavy Recovery with their big red tow rigs are makeing the big splash that is depicted on TV. They make referance to your area frequently, but seam to operate out of a base to your south west. What is the real reality of the reality show. Just courious.

i am 1.5 hrs. from lac la biche and did a lot of gas drilling there in the early 1980's. that was kinda a slow time also but this time its just crazy. companies doing all kind of cuts and layoffs and its getting worst. hate to see next year. richie brothers auctions is the only company making money. gonna be a lot more equipment going for sale too. oil companies running at 10-20 percent. it is really sad. i see lots off bankrupt people and companies in the future.

I was Stationed at the TOP/North (City of Kamloops British Columbia Canada)end of the Coquihalla highway "Highway from Hell" from 1981>2011. The Coquihalla highway was opened around the summer of 1985.
I know from years of driving, sections of the Coquihalla highway receives more than >20' of HEAVY SNOW, as the weather front arrives from the Pacific Ocean,(less than 100 miles west of the Coquihalla Highway/Highway from Hell) latent with moisture. The Natural Gas PIPELINE and COMPRESSOR STATIONS(Twin 36"& 30") is parallel with the Coquihalla Highway/High WAY from HELL. That portion of the Highway runs through a shot but steep section of Mtns. The North end of the Coquihalla Highway starts in Kamloops Canada at the intersection of the TRANSCANADA HIGHWAY at an elevation of approximately 1500>2000 FT and over a 60+ mile distance reaches possibly 5000+ in elevation. The challenge of this Highway is that for the most part it is never flat with grades of 10% +. There are several SNOW SHEDS,(Known as the GREAT BEAR SNOW SHED)designed to shoot the snow pack above the highway and into a river that follows much of the highway.
On the INTERNET, type in "BRITISH COLUMBIA HIGHWAY CAMERAS". Then select the camera that allows you to view the "Coquihalla Highway. Specifically "coquihalla highway cam"
As for the MOVIE "HIGHWY FROM HELL" the main Recovery Team are excellent BUT, the amount of horrific accidents are a bit over played....its a MOVIE.
The accidents are caused 90%+ by transport drivers refusing to CHAIN UP their EQUIPMENT and descending the SOUTH grade to fast in to High of a gear.... Go figure?
I spent many nights with a 4x4 and snow plow digging my way to a 32,000 HP Turbine Compressor Station to solve a problem of one kind or another.

I wonder if any one up there knows or see Alex Debacorski ? spelling ? Doesn't he live up around there ? Just wondering. Thanks Jack

Its not that glamourous, ties up alot of traffic waiting for camera crews, kept a fairly low profile around here when he was up here, he is currently out toward the west near the BC border-Alberta side I understand. He brought that big wrecker down to one of the carshows we attended, its impressive.

Dan,

It's good to know that you're still around. Hope the winter doesn't get too bad for you. My reason for posting was to find out some more about the "Highway from Hell" show, and some of the posts on here have pretty well answered any questions I might have.

Not much going on around here. We sold our motor home this summer, so our traveling days are probably behind us. I had hoped to get up your way some day, but it looks like that won't happen.

Well, my friend, keep in touch and keep posting pictures of any interesting projects you may have going.

Best regards,

Stan

Hi Dan, yes I still have the 60 orchard and just about everything else I have owned. I keep thinking about down sizing but enjoy playing with the toys too much. We do get to Calgary frequently but haven't been up your way in a lot of years. Good to hear you are doing OK and active. Cheers, Leon
