Rich, about 45 years ago, an old friend of mine who was about 50 years older than me, said "if you want to make pecans, put chicken manure under the trees". He was a very smart farmer and was a state legislator for 10 years. He also taught me how to run a sawmill as he had one during the 40's and 50's.
He also ran a mica mining operation after WWII to supply the army for their radios..

That is exactly what a waitress in a small Alabama town told me one time. She said you must be from the North. Then years later I married Dixie and pu-com it will be from now on. :)^D
 
I have a pecan tree in my yard that measures 16 and 1/2 ft around at chest height. The man that planted it died in 1912 and I don't know how long he planted it before then. He was in his forties when he died. The pecans are thick shelled and usually have a big crop most every year. If I could post a picture, I would. Tommy
