Elevator/Conveyor - Need to Buy a Small One (HELP)

Hey guys. I work for the state DOT and we use pelletized CMA for putting on roadways during snow and ice weather. We mix it in large tanks and need to purchase a new elevator or auger or conveyor that we can dump it into to get it up in the big tanks. We are needing something no taller than 18-20 feet as it needs to fit inside an enclosed pole shed. It also needs to be portable to be moved when not in use.

Where would I find something like this or do they even make something of that nature?

I've seen short belt conveyors as well as paddle elevators from this company in Pennsylvania: http://www.zimmermanmfg.com/ Note that there is a new owner but the design is the same.

These are also available. http://www.baumanmfg.com/conveyors_elevators.php
They're Canadian, but are distributed in the US.

A regular old corn auger will work for a
while. Get one with a swing away hopper if
going to fill with a loader.

Augers are common at farm and machinery dealers. What size do you need, 4 inch, 10 inch, somewhere in between?

A good Fleet and farm store can get shorter ones on wheelbarrow size wheels and frame to push around by hand.

Elevator or conveyor is more common in feeding dairy and bigger livestock, I would look towards a dairy supply company, feed dealer type.

Any can come in plastic or stainless if corrosion is an issue with whatever material you are working with?

Speed King out of Dodge City, KS (If I remember right) makes stainless steel conveyors with rubber belting for handling fertilizer. Many small town fertilizer co-ops use similar equipment. Maybe someone knows of a used one or spare that could work for your application.

Here ya go!!
Took a couple of shots of this conveyor a few months ago and just never posted it. The local "salt dome" in town for the salt supply. This looks like one Hum Dinger of a conveyor cause it must be all stainless for use with salt. Humungus bucks! Hope you like the photos!

Universal Industries in Cedar Falls makes Tube conveyors that look like an auger, but are actually a belt conveyor in a tube. They made a number of them for the Kansas DOT for that exact purpose. Almost all metal parts were Stainless Steel.

This is a local company that has good products. Cissna Park, IL at 815-457-2403 and in Sabetha,KS 888-574-3277 also https://ksiconveyors.com/

Not likely any stainless. Chlorides attack stainless. That includes salt (sodium CHLORIDE), Calcium CHLORIDE, Potassium CHLORIDE - all of which are used to some degree in highway salting. More likely it is galvanized or critical parts are plated with cadmium or chromium. Also, stainless against stainless (as in moving parts) tends to GALL and SEIZE.

I don't know what "State DOT" you work for, but I find it hard to imagine they don't already have a source for this if they are doing this
process at the state level.
