Ford Jubilee question

Just received an operator's manual on my 1953 Ford Jubilee but it does not answer my question. I had to replace the hydraulic lines from pump to hydraulic cylinder and am now ready to fill with new hydraulic fluid. When I finish, will the hydraulic lines be full of fluid so I can safely restart the tractor without damage to the hydraulic pump, or is there any way of checking to be sure the lines are full??

You say the line goes from the pump to a cylinder, there must be a control valve in between. If that is the case then it's on the output side of the pump and the oil will just push the air back to the reservoir, witch is fine.

You want to bleed your pump.
There should be a plug on the side of the hydraulic pump.
Start the engine and let it idle at slow speed.
Then crack that plug. It will spit oil and air out. Let it spit till you a clear flow of oil.
Don't wear your best shoes while bleeding it :)

Bleed like others said. My Jubilee was upgraded with a round piston pump. Pump is above hyd oil level in sump. Mine would lose it's prime. I ended up taking pump apart and it had one broken spring inside. While it was apart, I replaced every part I could buy. Been good after that. One time I got cheap and used universal hyd fluid instead of buying CHN 134. It worked just fine in summmer, not in winter. My control arms wear under the lift cover had lots of wear, replaced cam pin too. Good luck. Good tractor once you get the bugs worked out. Mine had many bugs too.
