John Deere L Ser.#630130 (1940 Model)

Helping some High School Kids time their JD L tractor (valve). Not present when camshaft, crankshaft, idler & magneto were removed. Several marks have been made plus factory marks on all 4 gears. Anyone have experience with how to solve this problem. Any reference that anyone can refer me to.

Match up the factory marks on the crankshaft and camshaft gears.

Install the mag so it "trips" at #1 TDC wtih the rotor nearest the #1 terminal.

First they tend to be a little bugger to time (just did another one). I will add you need the mag to fire when the spark mark on flywheel is in the center to lower half of the timing hole on the bell house. Don't know why they put additional marks on it but if the cam/crank is not in correctly toy will have to start over.
