Wife wanted to go to the Chestnut Mountain Ski Lodge to get the our kids, a daughter in law and a not quite yet son in law snow boarding gift. certificates. The place was built in 1959 and I only lived about 15 miles from it, haven't been there in 30 yrs. and it was a lot of fun getting out in the hills again. The pict. at the bottom of the hill is where I remembered I haven't charged my cam. batt. in a couple months. The two picts. out on the end of the bluff is where my daughter,s getting married in June. Then we went to Dubuque shopping for too long, then stopped in Galena Ill. on the way home for supper. Little sun would of helped still a fun ride. To the right of where those picts. were take a few miles is where one of those oil trains crashed and burned last winter.
That,s the Mississippi over the cliff and the snow piles were made last week to try out their equipment.

No idea what that is, they used to have an alpine slide set up in the summer that was like a cement hog trough back and forth down the hill, set on a little thing like a creeper and hang on, lot of fun.

(quoted from post at 15:49:56 12/12/15) WHAT IS THE LONG THING that looks like a bunk feeder

I expect that it is a conveyor belt ski lift. I have seen them on "bunny" slopes. They get snow put around them level with the belt before use.

I got a sled ride down the slopes and an ambulance ride out of there a few years ago, after a ruptured disk in my neck.

If you didn't break something you missed a good chance, I only tried it once when in high school but I didn't try anything crazy. Years ago they had something called Klondike days, one of the events was the wet t shirt contest, that would peak a guys interest.

WOW - We used to go there quite a bit back when I was younger!

PS: We were there when the NASA Columbia blew up

I have ski'd all over the country, then got hurt close to home. That was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life, ended up with neck surgery about 6 months later to trim the disk and it still stings.
