Looked like some bottles and a jar in one of the pics; might be some value in those for a collector. Out on the prairies of the Midwest, people are always digging around old failed homesteads looking for old bottles. Seems patent medicine bottles were a common find; some of them were made of beautiful glass.

Thanks for sharing Larry. I admire your ability to get these jobs completed. I have a small cellar that I need to clean out but seems like when I am about to get it something else always comes up! lol

you didn't say but that looks like spider heaven, around here there would be spiders big as supper plates in there

Looks great. What is the history of the little house. Love the fireplace. Was it a kitchen with the fireplace down there? I would have to put up some shelves to store canned goods if it is dry.

Me thinks you need to break some jobs down into phases - say over 2 or 3 weekends...
then you wouldn't be howling in pain today (can almost hear you from here).

Bengay... it's good stuff for what ails ya. Not extra strength though - that stuff'll take the hide
off an elephant.

Wow, Larry. I thought I had it bad. The basement in our latest acquisition stinks but it isn't near that bad, LOL. Just mold and cat residue. I have to say I admire your energy. You must be able to run circles around me (most days, not today). If I was capable of being inspired, you could probably do it.

Looks to me like you could rent that out to a troll, for a little extra income.

You're sure better at dirty jobs than I am.

Spiders was my thought also, Jim. With Some people, its snakes, and others its spiders! I believe, I would have used an elevator on the steps, running into my pickup. Maybe he don't have one.

I have a cellar like that under my house, about 5' floor to ceiling. My grandsons and I cleaned, took out the water heater, old oil furnace, duct work and shelves. Then we insulated the ceiling. I'm 5'9" one grandson 6'4" the other one about 6'. No way we could do it in one day. I think it cost me about 6 breakfast stops at the diner.

Great Job and very interesting to "look back in time"..

Just thinking how a good "whitewash" job would brighten it up a bunch...

I keep asking my self why would there be a fireplace in the basement???

The only thing I can come up with is the basement is where the family must of lived until the house was finished above them..

Could I be wrong??

We had neighbors years ago that lived only in a basement just up the road from us about 1/4 mile. We went to school with their kids. Not sure
why they never built a house on top of it but I suspect it was a money issue..
