Could be OT,but can use them in tractors

My son bought a dash camera that may just come in handy. Some farm tractor operators should install one in their tractors while traveling down the highway. Watch the semi driver being confronted by a highway trooper, when he was stopped, and it sure came in handy for him. Years ago when my Son in law was discharged from the army, we were traveling highway out of Trego,Wi. looking for an acess road to the river.Highway patrol coming at us made a u-turn,come roaring up behind us lights blazing, siren blaring, so my SIL who was driving pulled over ( now we were going slowly enough trying to see the river road) The trooper exited his car and came up to our car said he was doing 75mph in a 55mph zone.
Told the H.P I wanted to see the radar and his log book showing the last entry on speeding ,that I contened he didn't remove the entry before he issued My SIL the ticket. I was told He (H.P) didnt have to show me his ticket book. I told him he most certainly would have to show the ticket book to make sure the entry before MSIL was NOT THE SAME speed citation issued to another when we get to court. Sil paid the ticket any way . Damed if I would have.
Camera removes all doubt when proving who is in the right.Handy when and if we get cited or in a collision with another vehicle, deer, whatever.
Was wondering how many use the dash camera? Good thing to have IMHO.

Dash camera can be scary when you review it and count hoe many oncoming vehicles actually cross the center line coming at you. I keep a file of several of the recordings but will delete them after a few months. Most I may scan but not much in detail. But like you, some time back, I had a local city officer accuse me of a number of traffic violations. When he finally saw the dash camera, he changed his tune to wanting to give me a warning. I insisted that if he felt I was in the wrong, give me the tickets. Still refused and almost ran back to his car. I took the video with sound (voices) to the prosecutor and he was fired.

1970-1655,
The camera takes the starch out of them when they are wrong, when they are trying to issue illegitimate citations. The camera is a great witness (unbiased) and truthful. Some thing to have on your side, when wrongfully accused.

Bryan iniowa,
it is probably the best money ever spent. It takes away the he said,I said and brings it back to truthful information. Not all police are bad, but when dealing with the ones who aren't honest, it saves a lot in the pocket book, along with points on the license and insurance increases.

I got a similar one in Randall, MN by the local street sweeper/cop (yes, he did both jobs). Was on the road for 6/10 of a mile with cruise set for legal speed. I"m sure he had his set for fast traffic on US Hwy 10...no way I"d hit 69 with 4 cyl van. Fought it and judge wrote it down to 65, no points on insurance. Ran into locals here who said they go up North but bypass that town cuz they know what the cop is like.

JMS/.MN
It's a wonder the cop wasn't also the Judge.lol. He would have hung you out there to dry. Speed traps, I got caught in one in Oklahoma, 4 way stop, which we did, but the cop claimed we didn't. I was on my way back to the base when I got hit to the tune of $65.00,as best I can recall, back in the 1956. He had us follow him back to the sheriff's office, looked like Gunsmokes Marshall office, wooden floor, bars from floor to ceiling and all. It happens to a lot of people, that's why the camera is the best thing to do.Thanks for the reply,

I have suffered too many fools on the road and dont leave home anymore without the dashcam running.
While in San Diego, Dad (retired highway engineer)and I spent an afternoon watching them repave his street. Every machine had a backup camera. Goodmidea, save manpower and lives.

Reminds me of a song...

Lou,
I have a back up camera on truck. Works great when backing up to trailer. Sister's 40 ft motorhome has one, necessary. If everyone, cops included, had dash cams, there would be a few lawyers out of a job. Might even save insurance companies a lot of money too. Dash cams, black boxes and GPS locators might be the wave of the future in all cars.

Dan Richardson.
If you can't buy one you can make a magnetic mount using whatever base the camera has and a number of disc magnets glued to a metal or compatible plastic with silicone seal. Polyethylene and polypropylene will let go and usually will not do. even a piece of epoxy sealed wood will do.

There was a notorious speed trap town near Columbus Ohio, New Rome, A lawyer took up a vendetta to get back at the local cops, he ended up getting the local police disbanded, got the local municipality disbanded and had the town removed from the Ohio map. Another little speed trap town near Columbus, Brice, is as bad now and will soon get the same demise..were talking about little wide spots in the road that employ 6-8 traffic officers..

One of the benefits that I see from the increase in the number of video recording devices in the hands of the public is that police are having a harder time abusing their power. It is getting easier to catch them bullying the public. Seems like a lot of it started way back with Rodney King. More and more police are being watched by citizens with dash cams, camcorders, smart phones, and the like. And , more than ever they are getting charged with the crimes that they had been getting away with all along.

Wonder why many folks don't like cops? Don't trust cops?

Been thinking about getting one just because of the idiots out there.

Couple of years ago near here a cop pulled a kid over at 2AM leaving an APT building that mostly houses college kids. When he found out that the kid hadn't been drinking he went off on the kid and ranted almost 1/2 hour before he let the kid go. Mistake on his part. Kids dad is a big time lawyer in the Twin Cities. Dad made an appointment with the chief and they reviewed the cops dash cam which has sound from a mic the officer was wearing. First place the kid did nothing illegal that would give the cop cause to pull him over. Then the ranting. Officer in question was placed on probation and had to attend refresher training and anger management classes out of his own pocket to keep his job. A decent lawyer will demand to review the cops dash cam concerning any alleged wrongdoing of a client. You don't see it in the news but a lot of DUI arrests are being tossed because there was no probable cause to stop the driver in thee first place. And this is because of the cop's dash cam.

(quoted from post at 05:27:06 12/11/15) I want to get one for my Model A ford but it doesn't have a dash. Any ideas? Drilling holes is out of the question.

Most have suction cups to stick on the windshield. 12 Volts will be another problem, a Lantern battery should last all year.

Dan Richardson,
You could use some industrial Velcro, glue one piece to the camera and another piece to your model T where it can pick up the best viewing area. This one comes with a suction cup,so mounting it anywhere there is a clean surface is no problem. It will even work inside the tractor cab anywhere there is a clean suction-able type surface, ie windshield, back window, etc. We are going to use ours on the tractor also when we have to go out on public roads for hauling horse manure from the neighborhood horse ranch, just in case. Better to have it and not need it,than to need it and not have it. Just like a CCW permit, may never need it,but if you ever do, it's there and legal. Thanks for the post.

(quoted from post at 02:34:11 12/11/15) Just bought one . Too many idiots out there in case of accident or traffic issues .

It may just save someone a lot of arguing about what happened, and who's to blame. Thanks for the reply,
LOU

jimg.allentown,
They save time if and when anyone has to go to court, the camera never lies, can be bought off, or misremember.
thanks for the reply,

Tim S,
Theres a lot of money for the county, township in speed traps, and a heck of a lot of problems for unaware drivers. I don't have a problem with the cops giving a legitimate ticket for speeding, just the ones racking up the money for the township ,county for their own pocketbook padding.
Thanks for the reply.

Geo-TH,
They save a lot of lives (backup cameras and dash cams, backup cameras save a lot of children's lives when backing up and the driver can't see them in the mirrors. They should put cameras in all vehicles, it would also cut cost of insurance, as a record of who did what.
Thanks for the reply,
LOU

ObsoElitist,
Good for you, it may never be used, but will be there if needed. It seems the roads are getting more congested with more and more poor drivers, either paying attention to phones or just daydreaming, or just lacking a few meaningful brain cells.lol. Keep safe, and thanks for the reply,
LOU
