Hub removal

I have a hub to remove from a splined axle end and am looking for any suggestions to make it easier. The old Cockshutt has never had these hubs off and they sure seem rusted in place after I've removed the end cap and bolt. These are cast and I don't want to crack them. Does soaking help or any special pullers?

Soaking always helps, don't get in a hurry. If the tractor runs, go ahead and use it with the clamp loose and see if it will loosen up. Does it have jack bolt position to loosen it up>

Tapping around the outside of the hub with BFH helps. Not hard enough to break anything, but enough to jar the rust loose, and keep soaking with your favorite dope. Then set up a puller with threaded rod and scrap iron to put pressure on the end of the axle, keep pressure on it.

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]Andy Martin[/b:654c4848f0] that "[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]Soaking always helps, don't get in a hurry.[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]"

Agree with [b:654c4848f0]Paul from MI[/b:654c4848f0] that "[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]Tapping around the outside of the hub[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]" with a hammer helps.

Take a look at one method of removing a cast center hub.

Hope this helps.
