I was reading about the injuries that different people on here have had and one said he got swished while milking. Is that where the cows tail hits them? Is it a serious getting hit by that? Just wondering... :?

Speck, heck--about a 5-pound lump swung at the end of a 3-foot tail by a 1200-lb cow who isn't terribly pleased at you messing with her mammaries! Yup, it sure can be dangerous--small wonder lots of farmers dock their cow's tails--the novelty of having that happen wears off mighty fast.

Or tied to the opposite leg. (and a side swipe kick is even worse!!) Real milkers use a one legged milking stool. Jim

I alway like it when the stooges tied a brick on the tail, then got clobbered with it while milking.

Haha, that's what I was thinking about. I still like to watch the stooges when they are on one of the retro tv channels frequently. Do you remember the episode where all three of the Howard brothers were in the one episode (the only one)? It was the train car where Curly was just sitting as a passenger (he had had a big stroke and could not really do anything anymore) and Moe was a railroad detective and Shemp was boozing it up and of course Larry was with Shemp. I read an article a few years back about some college students that were traveling one summer and decided to see if they could meet Moe. They got his number somehow and Moe agreed to "entertain" them one afternoon. They went to his modest home and got to talk with him for a couple of hours and said he was one of the nicest fellows they had ever met and a pleasure to talk too.

Thanks guys, I got the picture of getting "swished" better now. Sounds like a cow has some real power behind that tail. I've been kicked by horses when I had to medicate for a nasty cut or such...but never fooled with cows.

BTDT. I hated setting next to a hot cow in a hot barn to milk her in the summer, then she would add insult to injury with a swish of her tail.

We always sat on a 1-leg stool for milking. Hated when the next cow over kicked that stool out from under me!

Didn't know at the time that I had carpal tunnel pretty bad that would make my arms ache really bad from milking by hand. Just plain hated milking cows!

Was in Boone, NC a few years ago and met a fellow that went to a movie theater in Raleigh, I think, to see a Stooges movie. Mo was on stage introducing the movie.
