OT - New Knee

Well - I am two weeks plus one day out of replacement surgery! I am walking without assistance (cane, walker, etc), and had the staples pulled this morning! I have almost ZERO knee pain, but the back of my thigh is SORE. Doc says that it caused by that particular tendon is "re-fitting" due to the condition of my old knee. I know that I can tell the difference in how that leg operates, and I walk totally different now. I am still weak, slow, and can't do much, but it feels so much better.

Depending on how long you had to wait and how long you used devices to help you get around will make a difference in recovery.

Not my new knee in Apr!

Got a knee replacement 3 years ago and have had a Pacemaker (on my 3rd one) for 19 years - those two replacement items are the best part of me.

My motto is, "Everything that works, hurts. Everything else doesn't matter" LOL

It only gets better. To be honest it takes about a year for any little cramps and such to go away on a long car trip. You will be happy with the lack of knee pain for sure !

The first I ever heard about knee replacement was back in the 70's. Knew a farmer that had to get around on crutches due to wore out knees. Knee replacement was a new thing then, so it was kind of an experiment on him. They replaced both knees and after the healing process was done he told everyone that he felt 15 years younger. My wife's uncle had his knees replaced 9 times before he gave up the ghost. He kept wearing them out.

Thanks for the update, you sound like things are going well. Your recovery makes me think mine won't be that bad. My right foot turns out really bad, it's getting harder to walk. I have constant dull pain and if I turn it wrong it'll put me on the ground. I had a double bypass a few years ago and really didn't want to have to go thru rehab again.

My 63 year old younger brother played hockey until he had his knee replaced last year. He is back playing hockey again. Doctor couldn't believe he couldn't stand the pain of "bone on bone" before the surgery, but he 100% now, and glad he had it done. Best of luck to you!

I had my appointment with the Doc yesterday. I had one partial four years ago and the other three years ago. He had told me initially to hold off as long as I could, because the replacements had a limited life span. He told me yesterday that mine could go thirty years. Then he said for some people but not me the way I use mine.
