tire width for plow

Hi guys,
I wasn't sure where to post this question. I have a semi mount IH 710 auto reset moldboard plow (4-16's). What should the tire spacing be to have the front bottom cutting entire width? The tires on the tractor are 18.4x38. Have far should the inside of the furrow tire be from the draw bar (center of tractor)? I appreciate your help.

There are rules (mathematical) to figure it out, but I don't know them off the top of my head. I think the easiest way is just plow a little and see what it does. If you don't like it, adjust the hitch and try again until you get what you want.

With 18 inch tires, you already have a problem since the tire is wider than your plow bottoms and may leave a slight "packing of soil" of the previous pass from the rear most bottom.

Can't say on an IH semi mount, but I just bought a John Deere F145H semi mount 3-16 and bought a manual for it. The three point hitch on the plow is adjustable so in my case, the wheel is set for 30" according to the charts in the manual. I think if you can get a manual for the plow you'll enjoy the plow a lot more. Lots of good information in the manual.

Most semi mount plows the wheels set about 30 or 32 in. from the center of the tractor to the inside of the tire.
