I am posting this here because I know that some of you are "specialists" in identifying older Cast Iron pieces.
I am attaching 3 pictures, and in doing so I will give you some dimensions.

The base is about 5" x 8'.
The diameter of the circular parts are about 7 inches.

The only markings on it (viewed from the top) is a G and a 5.
What could this have been used for?

Thanks.

I'm going out on a limb here, but this looks like an ice skate sharpening fixture. The blade is clamped by the set screws, and sharpened against a grinding wheel. The adjustment screw gives a little fine tuning for squareness. We have one in our museum that is almost identical.

Don't know but it would sure be fun to know. It looks like something that maybe used in a machine shop. Open the clamp just enough to insert something round? The knob for fine adjustment. Stan

I think you are correct, unc.
I googled "ice skate sharpening jig" and this picture came up - one for sale on Ebay.
It certainly is similar.

I just knew someone on here would know what it is.
Thanks to all, and especially to unc!
