Allis chalmers WD

Anyone out there have a WD Allis ? If so what's the going price on one used ? I've got friend has one for sale thought I'd take look at it, might even buy it if price is right ? Is there any rare to them ?

Early WD or WD45? From the photo ads, they seem to be going in the $1500 to $2500 range depending on condition.

They are solid tractors that have great engines and make reliable power. They often need weight in the rear to perform correctly with the power they have. Some people like the way they sit and ride, many do not like the stretched out position normal to the beast. The hand clutch working on the drive pinion, allows near live pto use, but shifting requires foot clutching. value with great tires 2250 value with poor tires 1200. Jim

I have 4 or 5 of them. I don't think I have paid over $1000 for any of them. The WD45 is a better tractor even though it looks the same. A WD is 201 cid, WD is 226 "Power Crater" with dished pistons. Neither are rare and most are a bargain...cheap hp!

PTO on AC WD45 is transmission driven. The secondary hand clutch is to a axle clutch- disengage the one axle, the tranny shaft spins yet and the 'free' axle spins to clutch-but not to wheel- but the 'solid' axle doesn't move when setting while PTO does spin off the tranny shaft. Quick adaption for the design time to get a in effect more or less 'Live' PTO. Some minor advantage for some use- a reverse PTO that can be helpful in clearing a fouled with commodity/jammed implement. Uncle liked his WD45 PTO compared to IHC M and H I grew up running- did help some on baler. RN.

Greast explaination, but wrong. You're thinking of the CA.
On the WD/WD45, the pto is driven from the foot clutch output shaft, same as the hydraulic pump. Hand clutch comes next, before the transmission, & runs in oil bath.
With a bit of practice & finesse, shifting can be done with using only the hand clutch. Key word is finesse. After using the foot clutch to stop the gears, later shifting from one gear to another can be done if done quickly. Just don't stay in neutral long enough for the oil bath to start the gears spinning again. MIGHT RATTLE A BIT IF DONE BEFORE THE OIL WARMS UP.
By the way, pto on CA is not reversable. It is driven by transmission main shaft. Only tractors I can think of that have a reversable pto were a couple Massey Ferguson models.

Well back several years ago 25 ? or so ? A WD allis was about the lowest price tractor there was, at least for selling ! Only tractor I ever had to sell at a loss was a WD allis ! Only thing saved me was the averages as I got it in with a bunch of other tractors. With the John Deere's dropping to at or below what they were back then I doubt the Allis have went up ?
