OT - your experience with 2014 Chevy Impala

I've read online reviews... but just wondering about those or you who own a 2014 Chevy Impala... what review would you give it?

I like them. I don't own one, but I'm a County Commissioner and the county owns a couple '14 Impalas (and a couple of other assorted vehicles) for officials to use for out of town meetings and conferences. Ordinances require us to use a county vehicle if one is available, rather than drive our own vehicle and charge the county mileage.

The ones we have are well equipped, but I miss having an outside thermometer and compass. But-the lack of those amenities could be the special package of accessories for government use.

If I was in the market for a family sedan, I wouldn't hesitate to buy a new generation Impala. Hope this helps.

Don't have one that new, but our previous car was a 2008 impala. Put 125,000 trouble free miles on that vehicle. At 135,000 I sold it to a neighbor gal for a college vehicle. If I had not trusted that vehicle to drive anywhere, at any time, I wouldn't have sold it to her. If our family had not outgrown a car, I would drive nothing but an impala. Excellent vehicles.

We rented one last year on holidays in Texas because we were planning on purchasing one. Good car, a much more pleasant vehicle to drive than the 2007-20013 Impalas, and they were a very good dependable car. We did purchase a 2014 Impala Lt--demonstrater with only 2000 miles (3500 km) It has the 4 cylinder engine, Navigation pkg, leather, satellite radio, collision avoidance system, etc., I think all options except sunroof. The driver info/enteraintment package is somewhat intimidating with the amt. of info on it, but really quite simple to navigate. You just have to sit down with the owner's manual and get aquainted with it. The Nav. system is also very good, and has povern very handy and easy to use in many situations. One may think the collision avoidance system is a bit much, but it does make you a better driver by alerting you to the small errors one does make. I really like it because----my wife always accused me of drifting out of my lane because I 'crop tour' too much. So, we set the system up in the Impala and drove to London --60 miles--where our kids go to University. I drove about 20 miles and was warned 4 times by the system that I was drifting. "See" said my wife " I told you so." She then drove the next 20 miles and it beeped 8 times at her. Vindication was sweet!!
Gas mileage is slightly better than our 2011 Impala averaging 7.5 liters per 100 km or about 38 miles per Imperial gallon--33 US. The six cylinder engine would give better performance with little extra fuel consumption according to tests, and would likely be the only thing I would change. The 4 offers more than adequte performance for our needs--indeed, worked effotlessly with 5 people and full luggage in the car at freeways speeds on a very hot day and still delivered over 44 miles/gallon.

I do not think you will be dissappointed; our dealer was/is very good to us and we would certainly consider another one. Our middle girl was in a very serious crash with our 2011 Impala --hit a big tractor broadside at 50 mph and had only seat belt/air bag abraisions. I was impressed/relieved enough that we replaced her car with another 2011 Impala.

Sorry for the long post, but we do like the car!!

We rented a 2013 a few years ago from Enterprise for a trip to Tennessee. I'm not a huge GM fan,but that thing made for a real pleasurable trip.

2014 is a whole different--and even more pleasurable car--but I am admittedly a diehard GM fan.

If you're trading up from a previous year Impala check the rear seat for leg room. We didn't realize that the new Impala was much shorter in the rear seat legroom. Very uncomfortable to have to ride there very long.

A friend has one and rode in it for a few hours. Would not own one! Road noise and rough road handling was terrible, and that was as a passenger.

Our 2011 Dodge Charger is far superior.

Beg to differ...I have them side by side and the 14 has more rear leg room than the 11 with the front seats in the same relative positions. The '14 is a slightly larger car all around than the 11 and has more room everywhere except the trunk. Consumer reports on the Dodge's reliability record speaks for itself....

I can't speak for the '14 but I have an '07 with about 112,000 trouble free miles except for one battery. I put 500 miles on it yesterday from South Ga. to below Ocala, Fl. and back, mostly on non interstate highways. The computer said I averaged 33.9 MPG for the trip. I've owned probably seven Impalas from '65 to the '07. I'm biased and happy. TDF

My friend has one. He has 206,000 trouble free miles on it. He has done oil changes, replaced tires, and done the brakes once.
He drives 200 miles to work and back everyday plus lots of driving on weekends.
Also, he is not gentle on his cars.
Based on what his experience has been, I would buy one in a minute!

I have a 2011 Impala and I would rate one of the best and trouble free cars I have ever owned. From past experience I would never own a Chrysler product. You would think after owning one Chrysler I would learn but bought two more.

Sweetfeet We have a 2013 Impala LTZ and it is the best car I have owned in a long time. The second would be a 1985 Buick Park Avenue. My brother rented a 2014 Impala with the 4 cylinder engine in it. What a DOG!!!! would not hardly get out its own tracks with any head wind. We went on a trip with us driving our 2013 and them driving the 2014. He told be to slow down as he could not keep up on some of the steep grades. Plus The 2014 has a much noisier interior. Mainly road noise.

Long story short I would only consider the 2014 Impala LTZ with the six cylinder motor. Even then it is a noisy ride compared to the 2013 and older cars.

Don't know about the Impala, but I have a 15 Malibu with the 4 cyl. and really like it. Has almost as much giddy up as my 04 had with the v6. I bought the car new in January for $1,800 less than I paid for the 04. Still don't know how they could do that.

Thanks again, for additional replies.

Going test driving today - plan to look at/drive other manufacturers cars too.

Leaning toward 6 cylinder (which is what the 2014 Impala is). Our last couple cars have been 4 cylinder engines. And while they drive well - when passing, I always feel like one is like a tiny mosquito trying to pass a bigger, more powerful goose. LOL

Not likely that I will come home today, with a car for my husband to look over - but have to begin the process of looking. The highest dollar amount we have ever paid for a vehicle was 8K for my husband's current pickup.

Sure dislike the thought of car payments again... but my car is 18 years old and beginning to show its age - so I guess it's about time to take that plunge.

We sell them. Have far less problems with them than any others. Of the many different brands we have on the lot the Impala would be my 1st choice. Post back with your impression.

hd6gtom,

The Impala handled well, seemed solidly built and was a nice looking vehicle too. I drove a 6 cylinder so it had good giddy-up-and-go.

It was "roomy" - but then compared to my little ol' tin can, any vehicle is roomy. I did not think the road noise was excessive as reported by some consumer reviews - but not quite as quiet as some other cars I drove.

However the seat was really uncomfortable...I wouldn't want to take a really long trip in it. It's too "long geared" for me and hits me at the back of the knee. I feel like I would almost need a cushion to sit on and put behind my back to make it "fit" better (and I don't like that idea). The seat was also really flat and no lumbar support built in.

And at 5 ft. tall... the darn headrest almost bends your head forward.

Do they make booster seats for adults??? LOL

I'm 5foot 6 and find a lot of cars seats are too long and the head rest is obnoxious. I turn the head rest around in most cases. but the seats can make or break the deal. Some have a lumbard setting that when inflated will help the seat length a little.

I hate to say it, but the seat comfort and especially an electric 6 way seat is a must... and priority when looking at cars and trucks... And a fairly Quiet ride is another priority as my hearing deteriorates and I have more trouble hearing the radio with all the back ground noise. Sure a long ways from the rattle traps I used to drive as a kid.

Sweetfeet; What model did you drive??? Our LTZ has adjustable seats and the most useful one is the seat height. My wife is 5 foot one and I am six foot. She has it up high and I like it lower. That will make the seat length "feel" different.
