Has anyone planted the brand of seed my neighbor had some he said it did as good other brand but cost less.He gave them my name in the summer and every few week a rep. call the house
.The way they talk on the phone it almost sound like a boiler room operation.
 
I used to plant it. Used to. They only had one number that worked for me. They started changing numbers in the bag but not changing variety numbers. That behavior is fraud. No more Unity for me. Mike
 
Your neighbor might be right if all his corn was second tier corn. A friend was planting some Unity corn. He was saying the same thing. I gave him three bags of "good" seed corn that did cost $50 per unit more than what his seed did. He planted it and it yielded 38 bushels an acre more. He now buys better seed corn.

I have found that your seed corn is NOT a good place to cut corners. You can have half crops with cheaper seed in stress conditions. Buy better corn and MAX out the discounts, such as early order an early pay.
 
I planted some one year it was cheaper bu the yield weren't that great compared to my other brands.That was close to 10 years ago still get call several times a year to try it again they will not understand that I don't want to use their corn seed.
 
Agreed. Some of the most expensive seed I've ever planted was free. It was weighed in a test plot (I always do that with new numbers) and I could see it was definitely not as good a value as advertised. Cheap seed is never cheap. Mike
