Do you use McMaster-Carr?

I see them mentioned in various forums from time to time. I use them quite often. I'm from the "old school" where I can just pick up the phone, have my part numbers ready and complete an order in a matter of a few minutes. The instant feed back from a telephone still beats any online ordering. Also from the "old school", I will never trust the so-called security of the various online ordering methods.

Am I an old curmudgeon? Yes! (did I spell that right?)

Ron

Yes we use them a lot at the weld shop.

If you call before 5pm the part will be on the next days UPS truck to our door.

Very well run company.

We used to order a lot of supplies from them when I worked at the power plant. Quick delivery and normally had it in stock. I ve ordered the shim stock from them to make my own shims on tractor projects. Mike

I often use them for "interesting" items. I call and it will be on their pickup desk in a couple hours. One warehouse is 7 minutes from me.

i use them quite often too. i usually get my items in one to two days. they stock a lot of odd stuff!!

I order from them quite often,They have hard to find items that you just cannot find just anywhere.Great fast service and have the order the next day.

My work uses them.

Times I have looked for some items for myself I found for less money elsewhere.

use them all the time, usually for odd or hard to find locally items. Had a slightly defective part one time, they said keep the defective part (which I repaired) and they sent a new one out. They are slightly more expensive and shipping on small items is usually $7 or $8. Bill

I use them. Their prices are a little higher than other places but, they have a lot of items that I can't find any other place. If I call them before 4:00, I will have what I ordered the next day. Everything I have ordered has been very good quality.

Yes, used them at my job (millwright in a large feed mill) for many things. Prices may be a little high, but a lot of their stuff can't be found everywhere. Still use them for tractor repair and shop supplies. Shipping is a little high, but so is driving 30 miles one way to get a similar item.

I have people complain about my price for repairs. Tell me they can get it done cheaper in Bryan. So I have explained a few things to them.It is 140 miles to Bryan and back. You will have to leave it and go back to pick it up.So that is 280 miles. Your gas hog gets 12 miles to the gallon. So how much cheaper is it really.

I have used them, it saves me driving around trying to find that odd item most hardware stores don't have, and the shipping is fast. They also have a excellent web sight, easy to find items. I am also a little afraid of putting my information out, where it may be compromised. I have ordered things from other countries with no problems. I believe most sights have good security, especially Mc Master Carr. Stan

I use them a lot. Another site I've found is Zoro Tools, they are a division of Graingers, but about without the high prices!

As far as putting credit card info out online, never had a problem. Any time a transaction is made, other than hand to hand cash, there will be information going out that could be used for fraudulent purposes. So, do I go through a secure website (which I don't know is secure or not), or give my information to a real person, (which I have no idea who they are or their moral character), or write a check with my personal info on it (that I have no idea who may read)... It goes on, I just have to trust it will be ok, refuse to live in fear.

I also prefer to fill out the online order forms instead of trying to converse with a person. That way I can type it all in, triple check everything, think about it, then when I'm sure, hit send. That way I get a copy of what I ordered, if it's wrong I can look to see what went wrong. Also between my hearing loss, the odds of getting someone I can't understand, sitting on hold, the potential of them misunderstanding, dropping the ball, whatever else can go wrong, are greatly eliminated!

I have used them for years and they are not cheap but they have good quality and service. They have many odd hard to find items and their web site works great. Place an order today and it shows up here the next morning.

I use the catalog to see if things are available then I search eBay.For ordering parts eBay and paypal are pretty painless. Some will say different .

I use them some but do order on line more now. McMaster-Car is quicker. Several online tool companies ship the same day you order as well. I can set in my chair with my laptop and order at 11:00PM and order and forget about stopping when at work the next day.

My Dad was a parts man for an heating and cooling contractor and He used them regularly.
I was looking for something odd and Dad told me to try them.
They had it and then I had it the next day.
As far as credit card security, I've never had trouble with any online transactions but
the last three Christmas seasons my card has been comprimised at stores.
And it was used out of state each time.

Well you have opened a can of worms with me!!! MM CAR and Grainger (tared by the same stick)!!! Nothing but frustration for me 1. very high prices 2. very high shipping 3. sales tax issues 4. Used to be you had to be some big company to use them. 5. Farm bureau got hooked up with them, what a nightmare, supposed to be a discount program. They seem to have little I can't find elsewhere without all the grief. enough on them

We, like others, use MC a lot. We usually have a cart open all day long and the key thing is that odd-ball sizes are usually in stock and we have them the next day. I'd love to see their warehouses.
