I planted some for the first time this year and I was kinda disappointed at how many I got. The plants looked waist high and bushy, but not many potatos. Just one row though.
 
you need to hill them..we always kept hilling them till the flowers showed....it might be an old wives tales thing but we always had lots and lots of taters....glenn ..( the other glenn fuller )
 
Looks very good. What variety are they? I thought you had stolen my totes there for a minute. How do you dig them?
My tater hauler is a year or two older than yours.

looks like a good hall. last year we got 400 lb this yr we got 1950 lb that's when we bought a ih potato digger. its nice to have lots of help. bob
 
Here is a pic of my digger on my "DC", think I dug around 450lbs of Norlands and Pontiac's (reds)
Enclosed is a sample of the Norlands. Guess I like reds better.

1917 Model T. Was a touring car that I converted to pickup like many farmers did back then.
Hand crank only. Original engine. I rebuilt the engine, transmission and rear axle. I have top bows to put a roadster top on it.
Gets driven to town on nice summer days and sometimes fill it with firewood when I am splitting wood.
Lots of fun and I love to have kids get in it in town to have their photo taken by their parents.
Rated at 25 MPG in the day. Not bad for a 98 year old vehicle.

I see you can your taters.I have a friend that cans his too. I've never tried them though. I'd like to think they'd come out a little water logged? I like my tater dry and flakey.
 
We open them and sometimes just boil the a little. Good around a roast in a pan. Can let them dry on paper towel and slice them and fry them. I like to brown then in a pan or in the oven in a little oil.
Did 110 quarts this year. I do mine in my shop. Son took his to local cannery and had 340 quarts.
Don't think he will need to plant any next year.

110 quarts of potato's is a lot, but 340 are hard to imagine. What is he going to do with that many?
 
He shared some with a friend that helped pick them up.
They will last for years in the jars and cans.
His family ate about 70 quarts last year.

johnlobb: Watch your fertilizer, too much nitrogen will cause you to have all tops and fewer roots/potatoes. Straight potash is what I used on ours.
