Stalk shredder or bush hog

What works better to chop corn stalks a bush hog or a stalk shredder I have used a bush hog but never a actual shredder!

I bought an older IH four row stalk shredder (model 40 I think) and would never go back to a bush hog again. The shredder has suction and pickes the stalks up better and also pulverizes the stalk better than a bush hog. Mine has good flails and I paid $500 for it two years ago. Tom

I agree, a shredder will pick up stalks a little better. I have a model 60 IH shredder which does just as good a job as a newer one. I used a 6 foot IH rotary stalk chopper before I got this one. The thing I don't like about the rotary ones, at least the IH one I have, in cornstalks is it left a little windrow down the field which you could see after tillage. Not a problem with the shredder.

Machines work best when they are used for the use that they are designed for. And that"s why it"s called a stalk chopper....
