International 300 power steering

I have a international 300 and power steering line broke and lost most of the fluid. I repaired the line but don't know how to fill and what kind of fluid it takes. Also what type of fluid goes in the power steering gear box

My 400 has the Behlen system and it uses the hydraulic fluid from the tractors hydraulic reservoir
SDE

My 350u did that before. I just put a
new line on it. refilled the
reservoir under the seat and cycled
the steering from full left to right a
few times. I was back in business in
no time. I just used hydraulic oil in
it and all works fine.

there was 2 different ones used -- the factory one is a behlen -- the add on one is a charlynn which one do you have?

The gearbox takes gear oil, I used 90W/140, but that's because I had some left over. Not sure what weight they are supposed to use.

Are you asking about a 300U ? There is hydraulic from the pump in those two big metal pipes by your right thigh. The actual oil comes via a plate affair under your hydraulic valve body assemblies. Also on those power units do not forget to add some oil to it. This little plug in the middle of the first picture and takes some light gear oil or even motor oil. It lubes the little wrack in the unit. BIGGGG price to fix it if it gets chewed up. They hide that little sucker! It is right in front of the battery. If your hydraulics get slower and slower you can have a filter getting plugged. It is under the seat and is a true pain in the buns to change. good luck. Let us know.

I put hydraulic fluid in the wrack unit buy mistake, I will drain that out and put gear oil in it. I still am not sure were to fill the hydraulic fluid under the seat, there is just a few screw plugs and a vent. Also not sure how much to put in. Thanks great pictures

Unlock the seat and slide it back. There is a nice big plug. Unscrew it and you will find a dip stick. Add Hy-Tran to it.

Farmall and Internationals use a completely different p/s system. If you take the plug out and the dipstick is missing just keep the fluid two inches below the top. If you over fill it, it will just blow out the vent and and onto your leg.

Big Fred: IH changed their transmission oil specs to Hy-Tran many years ago due to Torque Amplifier failures with 90-140 gear lube!
Use a compatible hydraulic oil for the transmission & hydraulic system.
