found another method to repair lawn mower hoods that get cracked. instead of using the fuzor or 3m structural adhesives, i fixed the craftsman mower with a plastic welder and used the .080 weed wacker line from my stihl weed eater. worked really good. heres a couple pics. i havent figured out how i am going to patch the missing pieces yet. i do have an old bumper cover i may try and cut a few pieces out. this thing was broke bad.

heres the plastic welder. this one is from mac tools, but you can get a harbor freight one pretty cheap. i used a carbide burr to cut a trench along the cracks.

Question: Did you also weld this on the bottom (underneath side) of the hood as well?

Thanks for posting. As plastic seems to be the new norm, we need a reliable method of repair.

havent welded the bottom, seems to be holding pretty good just from one side. i picked this mower up as a freebie, it was abused badly, but only has 200 hours on it.
 
back tires are still like new, fronts are bald. i am thinking kids were using this as a driveway nascar racer. they bent the deck up real good, and then drug the deck on the gauge wheels. got those brackets straightend out pretty good, need new gauge wheels.
 
A buddy gave my son an old Skidoo snowmobile years ago, about a 6 inch wide piece was broken/ gone where the hood met the gas tank, probably about 14 inches long. I heated up parts of old bug shields and got them shaped like the other side and used some kind of body shop glue to hold it together. Had the body shop paint it blue and put some purple flames on it, looked like new till you looked under the hood.
