Cut some wood Saturday

And here it is Sunday morning , and I have discovered that I have some mussels that hadn't been used much for a while. Kind of a shock, thought I was in fair good shape too! Must be that old age stuff I have been hearing about. Cut this and loaded it on the truck yesterday, no problem . Can hardly bear to look at it today, lol . Worst part of this is , I don't even need this wood for this winter, next years wood. Just fence row trees that need to go .truck is only about 16 feet long , this morning it could have been a 50 foot trailer. Bruce

Oh, how I know the feeling. Chased the neighbor's dog off the yard yesterday as he proceeded to set up for a dump. Hurt my knee pretty good. Hobbling around today with a brace on it. Yes, I would do it again in an instant.

Very familiar looking species of dead elm. Do that work for a few days, you'll get in shape for it, I go through twice every year, get used to carrying the saw, hefting blocks and all the rest, before you know it you won't be nearly as sore. I spent 6 hours total hand digging in the last 2 days, a bit tired, slightly sore, but still going. There seems to be a slight problem with natures engineers, but at least its ag exempt from any official nonsense, darned things will make a fool out of you and wear you out.

Get out there and go back at it. Just like getting back on the horse that bit you. You will loosen up and find some more of those muscles that you forgot you had. If you wait until next spring you will just start hurting all over again.

Your finding out why I quit burning wood ten years ago or so. The Doctor bills where getting higher than the heating bills. LOL

I now a days only can cut for an hour or 2:my back just don't let me do it for long any more. And those big pieces -I would not even try to lift, even tho I can.I would just roll them onto the splitter, and raise it up to a comfortable height to split, and load from there. But anyway, just pace yourself, keep moving to limber back up.Mark

aybe just me but that wood looks half rotten,...won't burn worth a fart.
My son cut me 4 cords of firewood the other day.
Was spruce that been laying in a windrow for 2 years,..looks the same as yours...half rotten. I found it's hard to get burning and gives of half the heat of sound wood.
Wish he would've left it where it was.

I also clean up the junk wood providing it's not to punky before cutting anything down. Yep , you can work all day / everyday and still get sore muscles that aren't used . I knew a guy that worked out in a gym , got a roofing job and almost killed him to carry shingles up the laddder .

Larry --ont .

Jim the saw worked good , till the gas ran out . Filled it with gas and couldn't get it to restart. Once it cooled off , started right up. Next tank same thing. Took it back to the dealer, he adjusted the carb , now it works fine. Was set too lean he thought.

Hey Bruce, at least you got to use your new saw! And get ahead for next year. Lol, can't beat that.

It's just you. Dead Elm just looks like that. It does start to get a little punky after a few years or of it's in contact with the ground, but then Elm isn't the greatest firewood to start with anyway. It all burns if you let it dry.
