Today I heard something about that, except the way that I heard it announced was that ALL red meats are as bad as smoking cigarettes. People have been eating red meat since the caveman days, and the life expectancy continues to go up. Once again, someone that I have no idea is or interest in, knocking at my door and unsolicited tells me how bad my habits are and what's good for me that I need to do. Thing is, I never leave a loaded side or long arm at the door, so by the time I run and get one, they're always gone.

The Way I Heard It Annouced Today

Fact 100% of people that drink water die.

If you like to eat the stuff go for it. This "report" wouldn't stop me.

Wait a few months when the meat producers of the world get their own study done, then the results will flip again.

These are the same UN wack jobs who claim Roundup causes cancer. It's a shame that you have to be so carful who you even get your SCIENCE from.

The tofu and bean sprout army strike again. I think if you listen to any of this crap it will eventually lead to the extinction of mankind from the earth.
More bacon, please.

Rod

Yup and the University of Michigan, I believe it was, just published something about cheese being as addictive as crack. The insanity defies description.

Everything in moderation, I have inlaws that panic everytime something comes out, they eat very little now.

Dad had a good friend who's wife was one of those over the top food fad nut cases. That poor old guy wouldn't even have a piece of pie when they went out for coffee because he was afraid his wife would find out. Dad said he was so malnourished that he'd fall asleep while they were driving down the road talking.

What killed him you ask? He slipped and fell on the ice and ruptured his spleen. I guess he could have had that pie after all.

The World Health Organization (WHO; /hu??/) is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN) that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

That's right at the top of a Google search for them. I believe they're the same crowd who pushes birth control for kids around the world aren't they?

Now that's depressing!! Think I will do myself in, but how? Double bacon cheeseburger, or chili-cheese dog.Of course washed down with a barley pop.

joe

I think it's bull, you have to eat in moderation, my dads father, my grandpa lived to be 96, sharp as a tack when I visited him 2 weeks before he died. He was a truck driver, a pipe smoker and a alcoholic? He ate alot of cold cuts when i was a child, and would not take walks or be very active in his 70s and 80s, and he was not obese. He was told at some point when I was a kid he needed to quit smoking his pipe, dad said he quit cold turkey.

Remember Jim Fixx who promoted running, he died of a heart attack while doing what? Running. Lol

WHO is a political front for the UN.

They're right though, eating bacon is as bad as eating radioactive broken glass.

So, everyone send me your Bacon and I will dispose of it properly!

Anybody read the book The big fat surprise? I think that's the name of it, I saw it in Hoards Dairyman, but I have not ordered it yet. Also how is homemade sausage considered processed?

I disagree with all of it. Just like the Cholesterol egg scare a couple of decades ago or the Saccharin fiasco about causing cancer.

I think with the 'homemade sausage' idea is the seasonings and preservatives used...lots of nitrates and nitrites...IMHO

sd pete- It's people like you that want to try to bring a political position into a thread that
gets the thread deleted. You know it is against Forum rules but you still do it. Why do you do
this? It serves no point.

I agree, I was gonna bring up the egg thing, I'm glad you did, I remember my dad telling me about that years ago. So I'm not the only one that heard that.
Look guys the government loves to sell fear, keep everyone in fear and you have a nation in control, or people in check. I mean just watch TV commercials! if you don't have life insurance and die your loved ones will suffer, if you eat this meat you'll get cancer, if you don't buy the latest model car with 75 airbags and 62 safty features you could be killed in an auto accident, if you don't brush with Colgate your teeth will rot, that's all it is about sell fear! And plenty of folks are buying.

JayinNY- Every item you mentioned is not Government sponsered, those that you posted were coporate selling points....

" I mean just watch TV commercials! if you don't have life insurance and die your loved ones will suffer, if you eat this meat you'll get cancer, if you don't buy the latest model car with 75 airbags and 62 safty features you could be killed in an auto accident, if you don't brush with Colgate your teeth will rot, that's all it is about sell fear".

Companies are the ones telling you those stories, not the government.

How ever you want to look at it, all I'm saying is fear sells. I thought the gov set safety standards for cars? But you understand what I'm saying.

Guys pretty simple, look up some info on WHO. This is the same group that rated the Italian medical stuff way above that of the US right before the reports surfaced about the hospitals being so bad that rats were running up and down the corridors. When ask about the rankings it was because we didn't have universal health care. Another item on their agenda is stamping out starvation in the world. They believe that if they can get people to stop eating meats that more land will be available for tillage and crops fed to animals could be used a people food too. They don't understand that the world (not just the US) can grow enough crops to feed the world. They refuse to believe that across the world we have enough crop land plus pasture land to have our cake and be able to eat it too so to speak.

Rick

shame they just can't tell the truth.
We don't know what makes a person get cancer.
See...it wasn't that hard to say.
For every example they use of a person that gets cancer from some habit, there is another person that does the same habits 10 times over and doesn't get cancer.
I'm not even going to try to explain how I eat and drink. no one would believe me. My cholesterol is below normal, don't have cancer, don't get sick, stronger than most. Put me in the study..would it mean all my habits are a good thing and recommended? of course not.

They really oughta get out of their desk chair and work that ol machine.....might be able to eat/drink like us then...whatever we want.
Just like diesels, if we don't work our machines hard, we'll get sick and 'slobber'. LOL

I look at life this way. We all have a set date and way we will die and the only way that can be changed is if we take our own life. God knows when he wants us to come home and we can do little or nothing to change that no matter what we eat or drink or smoke etc etc. O know there have been more then one time I thought I should have been killed but well it did not happen

I think you hit the nail on the head there. I believe you are right. They claim almost 50% of greenhouse gases are from the cattle industry. And I did hear one report that said livestock were man made.......... You can laugh now.

Darn, no wonder I like cheese so much. I can quit anytime I want to though. Seriously. Any time I want...

Ross

For what it's worth, I read a lot of olds posts and rarely agree, however, his post this time goes right to my thinking. When it's your time you'll go, before then, no.
Regards,
LOU

I think it was early 80s they said bacon would kill you if you ate 2400lbs a day. diet coke would kill you if you drank 1250 cans a day.id hope the hell it would. I don't care cause I was supposed to be dead over three years ago.

What's new? I'll bet it's been close to 30 years since we were told that nitrates/nitrites/nitrosamines in cured/preserved meat were going to kill us.

And now it's a new/cutting edge/recently discovered phenomenon?

That's just SILLY as all get out!

Thanks for posting, though, 'caus that reminded me I gotta grab a pound of bacon out of the freezer so it thaws for the morning!

Some wise man said that there are no new ideas; there are just old ideas that keep coming back in various forms.

I still remember reading about the big campaign way back when to prohibit swords - now we hear the same ideas about guns.

I wish all these idiots that are afraid of eating would stop eating. In about 3 weeks their problem, as well as ours, would be over.
The way the world is going today, I don't want to stay any longer than I'm allowed. I stay prayed up, packed up, and ready to go.
There are plenty of studies that refute this claim that meat is bad, here's one:

I just heard this discussed again this morning. A talk radio show had on a physician that tried to down play the report in that in his opinion, the WHO do good and mean well, they are just very bad at packaging their product. Apparently, the WHO has taken some serious slap down over this. When asked, who funds these "scientists", he said the U.N, which is us, and we know who is currently in charge. Then when asked where these "scientists" are located, he said Paris, France. That's good enough for me and all I need to hear. Raw hamburger for lunch today it is, a double.

Mark

I liked the response of the president of National Pork Producers,he said to take it with a grain of salt, but not too much salt, that wouldn't be good for you.

Ya,they said this morning that they usually require a consensus among their scientists before they give these warnings, but this time they only had a simple majority, but they went with it anyway.
That just screams politics to me when they break with their own policy. Just like their Roundup warning, the whole thing was based on existing science that was never interpreted this way before.

I had 3 eggs, large piece of Ham,fried taters,2 slices of toast this morning for breakfast. Boy I feel good and full. Oh,forgot the coffee.

Ain't it funny how the people that are supposed to be so smart are dumber than a box of rocks and don't even realize it.

The plain simple truth for almost all of us is if you live long enough you will get cancer or have a heart attack and die.

You could eat one hot dog everyday of your life, and only raise the risk of stomach or colon cancer by 1%. Where's my bacon? I want to wrap it around a hot dog and grill it.

Two weeks ago I gave the eulogy at my BIL"s funeral. He was almost two years younger than me. He hasn't eaten any meat, including fish, in over 40 years. Or smoked or drank alcohol. A perfect picture of health, he was.

When its your turn, its your turn, you have to go.

Meanwhile, today I grilled Angus sirloin over mesquite, my wife fixed Mac and cheese, and collard greens, all washed down with sweet tea. Later I'll watch the Lab chase the armadillo around the yard while I have a shot (or two!) of Ezra Brooks.

God put us here to tend the Garden and to enjoy Life abundant.

RIP TLM

Scott

Hi Sean,
That's very interesting! I know the history of Ezra Brooks whiskey in the "modern" era, but didn't really know about its early history. If you like Jack Daniels, I believe you'll really like EB. Its about 2/3rds the price, and to me, a lot smooooother! I like it "straight up," that's why its called a "sippin' whiskey!"
