Have many dead elem and ash trees in fence rows , nothing real big but still a lot of good wood. But I only had a fair big saw , around 60cc or so , and it gets to be a drag cutting limb wood with it so. I bought this 40cc saw , weighs in around nine pounds, cuts nice too. Didn't come cheap though, $475. Seems like a lot but , hey the guy threw in a hat after the deal was done . Now we all know what a good deal that makes it now right! Bruce

Bruce I have been looking at that size saw and have read some reviews that weren't to kind please keep us posted on how it starts and runs for you. Randy

Lol!

Forgive me Bruce, but your statement about 60cc being your big saw struck me as funny. My small saw is 70 cc's.

My oldest son uses a 60cc saw as his big saw also. Give him a bunch of good natured guff about it, too. (smile)

its 445 sell them for 329.95 with 16 inch bar yours looks like longer bar option but still not that much higher. guess need mark mine up more. good luck with it where are ya

Good looking saw! You should be very happy with it. I got a 372XP when they first came out, I keep 20" on it but will take 32". I don't leave big bar on as it is nose heavey. For limbing I use a Stihl 200T pro trimming saw, I sure like the light weight and the power of it plus can one hand it.

Bryce, looks you need some sun/safety glasses and ear plugs! I won't run a string trimmer or chain saw with out my sun glasses in. I do throw the guard on the string trimmer in the garbage, so that dosent help! Lol, take care of your eyes and ears.

Man, I'm jealous now. Good lookin' saw for sure. I have an old Stihl 024 for about 30 years and it still runs good and has cut a lot of firewood during that time. Buy good stuff and it lasts forever! Congratulations....now you have to get something for the wife equal in value....lol.

I have a Husky about that same size. It has cut a lot of wood. The only thing I don't like, it has so much compression, it is hard to pull through, could use a compression release. Stan

Good old Husky --I have a 51 , 55 , and 2100 for the big wood . We cut tons of firewood in the 80's - 90's for mad money l.o.l.

I was thinking of buying a new Husky this year when my Craftsman started giving me problems. Have a friand who works on small engines and he got it fixed for me. Since then I ran across a like new Poulan for $25.00 came with a new new chain, 2 quarts of 2 cycle oil and a quart of bar and chain oil. Guy said he cut one tree down with it and had been stored for 4 years. Runs geeat. I know Poulans are cheap junk but will be a good backup. I don?t use them a lot but nice to have when you need them. Got three pines to cut down for my son and mullberry to trim up at home.

I just bought a new Stihl Farmboss MS271 two weeks ago. I love it and it seems pretty fuel efficient and it isn't even broken in yet.

Dahlin, I like to look at the reviews on things I buy as well, but I believe people should have to state their experience/background before giving a review either way. You never know, they could say the junkiest chain saw money can buy it the greatest thing since sliced bread. And it probably would be, if their previous saw was a bow saw lol. Or they could say the best Dolmar was a piece of junk because it wouldn't hardly cut after buying it new, and they think they know about saws. But, if they are like some guys dad had to work with on storm clean up once, they said the saws they were using were junk, wouldn't cut. Dad said they had 8 inches of the bar buried in the ground on the other side of the limb, LOL. These people actually DO exist lol.

Both of my newer Jonsereds have compression releases, it's nice. Not sure when they started doing that, they are about 7&11 years old. The newest one also has a primer bulb, that is good!

I just did the same a couple of weeks ago. I bought a Dolmar 35 with a 14 inch bar for limb work. It weighs in at about 9 pounds and is much lighter than the 101 that I use to take trees down. It was getting tiring to hang onto that 15 pounder all day when I didn't need to. I've been nothing but glad I did it. I've only gotten to show it off a couple times so far but there's plenty of time ahead.

I have 2, 288XP Husqvarnas.

One of them is a 288 "Lite", and it's cylinder had a compression release, the other 288XP doesn't have the spot for it?

I asked the guys in there at the shop, and they said that the 288XP "Lites" always did, and the 288XP "Pro" saws never did?! The "Lite" is a 1988, and the XP is a 1994...

Both are awesome saws.... The one in the picture with me a little lower is the XP, total rebuild, $400 into it is all.... :)

gwstang, I also have an old STIHL 024 AV Super.
Still running good; its my main saw.

It used to be my uncle's saw, so don't know the exact age of it.
I assume it is from the 1980's.

I would buy another of that brand any day.

Usually wear my helmet... It has a chip guard scree on the front of it, and the fold down muffs. I KIND of like the ear muffs, but have already had 2 close calls, and both times, if I had been able to hear what was going on around me, I would have been able to get out of the way in time..

When running that saw there, I have something in my ears. I do in the picture, I can just barely see the plugs...

That one has a high compression piston, special carb, and a 2 port muffler, so, it "pops" pretty darn loudly! :p

Bruce That is a good looking saw. Isn't it funny how a chainsaw get heavier as we age??? LOL

As for the brand wars. I have ran many brands of chainsaws. I have found that the majority of them will cut and perform well if they are cared for and used for what they were meant to be. Meaning if it is a little 12 inch limbing saw do not try to cut up whole trees with it. I own several Stihl saws and One Echo saw. I have used my brothers Husky saw and it is good too. So Buy the best you can afford with local service and you will be good to go.

Bruce are you sure you did not buy a smaller saw to tempt the better half into cutting wood too??? LOL

Whenever I see a chainsaw, I'm reminded of the story that a county manager in Ohio told me. The county was pressured into hiring some welfare guys. The manager sent two guys out with a chainsaw to cut down a tree that was causing snow to block on the road.

The guys got the chainsaw started, cut down the tree - which fell across the hood of the pickup. To get the tree off of the hood, they ran the saw into the hood a few times when they cut the tree up so they could move it. After they got the tree cleared away, they decided that they should go back to the shop and report the damage. They had put the chainsaw on the ground behind the truck, so they backed over the chainsaw and destroyed it.
