rain in the exhaust

I left my 4230 exhaust uncovered over the weekend. 8 plus inches of rain. What should I do besides kick my own butt?

Pull the injectors before you turn it over. Cranking over an engine 1/2 full of water can do some serious damage to rods, etc. gm

I agree with what Gary Mitchell said. But, before you turn over the engine, crack the crankcase drain plug to drain out some of the water that may have got past the piston rings into the engine oil.

I don't think you necessarily have to pull the injectors. Turn the engine over by hand at least two full revolutions. If it does not lock up the bump the starter gingerly. If the engine continues to turn over fine crank it up and do what M Soldan says. I do agree with cracking the drain plug before starting. Make sure when you're cranking the engine that the fuel is shut off. I think the 4320 still used the manual throttle shut off. If the engine hydro-locks against water in cylinders the injectors have to be pulled. Might also be a good idea before starting this process to check the air filter and disconnect the air intake to the turbo to make sure no water is in there.

1st he stated it is 4230 not a 4320 2nd no turbo on 4230s turn by the flywheel as the guy stated you will need the special gear to turn it over go to Deere dealer and borrow

that is what I usually do ,, but those words of caution are valid ,, the Key is in the 1st second or 2 of crankin the engine , if the motor cranks and seems water lokt , STOP . ,,

I have a wrist pin souvenir from a IH 1086 that sat out with uncovered exhaust during hard rain. Owner hit the starter and it snapped that pin right in half. Unbelievable as that is no small wrist pin. New piston, rod and some head work, ran for years after.

just to add to all the great advice so far...
don't delay.
rust starts on parts not used to seeing water shockingly fast.

Sorry, I misread the model number. So everything I said still aplies except the turbo hose. I am also aware of the manual cranking tool available from Deere but since I thought it was a 4320 I was not sure if those were setup to utilize the tool.
