this old case 1930 C-O

Okay I got some thing that has been puzzling me. Here it goes on this old case I have to pull off the back rims. Now there is a big bolt on the axle. What I thought is a good way to pull them off is to take the bolt on the axle off and they should be ready to pull them off (right). So I took the counter out and tried to find a wrench to fit the bolt (wow) it is a big bolt. Question do they even make wrenches to fit this big nut? Any ideals because I am still puzzle by this right now.

Brent , measure across the flats on the nut , there's your size. Then go over to Harbor freight @ 3530 Adams in Riverside and get a six point socket that size and a breaker bar if you need one . I'm guessing you have a piece of 2" pipe for a cheater ?

Sure, but you might be looking at $300 for a single wrench. They get real expensive as they get that big.

3/8 or 1/2 inch plate, cutting torch, and leave a 16 inch lug on one side to hit with a sledge hammer. A lot of my big tools are home made.

with a torch, die grinder and some care you can make a "wrench" out of some plate. Have done that a time or two. In that application I doubt it's extremely tight.

Case and other companies made tool kits for servicing their tractors. An axle nut,(NOT BOLT as you described), wrench was in the kit.
That wheel isn't going to just fall off the axle once you take the nut off. The hub is keyed to a tapered axle stub. You will need to rig up a puller and will have to squarely hit the end of the axle stub with a BFH to pop the hub loose. That could be easier said than done since those wheels were embedded in concrete.
NAPA and other places have steel cup wrenches for servicing heavy truck rears, that should be the corect size. As other said, just measure across the flats of the NUT to determin size.

No need to "buy" an expencive wrench. Find an axle nut socket(fron NAPA etc),make one from steel plate, use pipe wrench.Or hammer and chisel to turn. As was said, probably not tight.

Hey you know it. I went there and found a big black box of sockets and 1 inch drive. went from 1 inch to 3 7/8 inches I guess that is the one I am going to get after I go to the bank and get some money out of it. The coast is cheap 178.00 for the set.
