I Have a chance to buy a 53 Super MD. Been setting for 9 years outside exhaust covered. New wheels and tired before parked. Was running and driving tractor when parked. Rear main seal started leaking and he parked it. Perfect grill. Good missing. Battery under seat. Complete tractor minus hood. What's it worth?
 
A lot can go wrong in 9 years outside. Does it appear to have had antifreeze in it? Any cracks in the engine block, transmission? Though the tires were new, they still have 9 years of sun on them.

If all looks good might offer $150, not worth more than $200 not running.
 
I would say $1000, that would still have a lot of parts other people need. That's probably what it would be here in MI. Just check and see if it has coolant in it, diesel in the tank, clean not milky or fuely oil in the pan, and crack the trans drain to check for water.

Good clean oil. No visible cracks on anything. Water was drained when parked. It also has a behlen power steering pump on it. Everything is free and moving on it. Haven't tried the motor yet.
 
That tractor running is worth good money. Not running it is a crap shoot. The motor is very expensive to work on and the cylinder heads are know to crack around the pre-combustion chamber/injectors. With good tires and the power steering unit, it is easily worth $1000-1500 just in parts. More than that if the motor parts are useable.

I would not know what a restored Farmall Super MTA Diesel would bring in today's market. Ten years ago or so they would bring $4-5K in pieces and $10 if they where sharp.
 
Boomer...if tractor is complete. 1500,00 easy. Even if the motor is stuck there are guys here that would pay that for it. There aren't many of them around.
 
There was a time when the MD was somewhat desirable, but not today. There is one on CL for $1k and can't get a bite. It's a single frt. that runs on the diesel side only.
 
He's got an h too that he wants to let go with it. It's rough though. I've already got 5 of them. I made him an offer so we'll see what happens. Thanks everyone for the advice
