OT baby in the house this weekend

My daughter babysits for a couple that sometimes have to work weekends. They have a 14 month old boy. He has been coming over on weekends so she can watch him here. I really enjoy having a little one back in the house. My kids are teenagers, so do not want real grandchildren until they get out of college and married, so this satisfies my grandparent cravings.
 
What I like about grandparenting is you can play with and spoil them, fill them with candy and sugar THEN SEND THEM HOME LOL. When they were wee infants I had the mom give them a bath, feed them, fresh diaper, coat them with baby oil and baby powder THEN HAND THEM TO GRANDPA IN HIS ROCKING CHAIR.............

If I had known grandkids were as great as they are, I would have bypassed the kids and went directly to them.
 
I think the young help keep the old young at heart and the old help the young learn about "real" life. That is one change in the last 50 years or so that is not good for the young or the old. The old are shipped off to "homes" and the young never interact with them. The nuclear family life has be a casualty of the dual income house holds. There are very few multigenerational families any more other than Amish or Mennonites.

I can remember my 90 year old Great Grand Mother watching me a fair bit. I had two Great Aunts that watched me when I was 8-10 an they taught me how to cook and bake. That is a skill I used a lot in my lifetime. I hung out with my Great Grand Fathers and learned skills that I have used my entire life. I welded in the 5th grade. Made a stand for my science fair project, solar heating. They refused to weld it for me but helped me cut the steel and showed me how to strike the arc. I can't remember much about the science fair project but I can sure remember the things they taught me about welding.
