Time to search the iron pile

The auger that feeds up in to the mill on the New Holland grinder mixer is getting awful rough. I figured it was about time to break down and replace it. Just the auger, not the trough or anything else,$1,215.50. No thanks,I only paid $800 for the whole machine five or six years ago.

I think I'd better check. I kinda think an auger out of a flail chopper or something might be the same diameter. I'd have to cut it to length and weld the drive end from this one in to it.
I don't know if Harvey at Dutchmen's Welding in Carson City would have any flighting or not. It's time to find out,if I can't find anything laying around here. Naturally I took a flail chopper and a CaseIH 781 to the crusher a few years ago. I knew that was gonna come back to bite me.

Call Mae Wes. I have used their products and they are great. It would be poly flighting that you would rivet on. It wears better than iron. I lined the tube on the intake auger on my mill and it doesn't have a scratch in it after thousands of bushels of corn. Very good people.

Or try a power train/materials handling store that sell augers, trough and screw like from Martin sprocket. Most of those screws and augers are standard and you can buy components off the shelf from the distributors for a lot less, with minimal modification it'll fit you grinder/mixer.

I just called a company called G&H Distributing. I got 9x9 flighting, quarter inch thick for less than $20 a foot. The old stuff was eighth inch, but ear corn is awful hard on it,so I went with the thicker stuff. It's on its way.

You've got it covered already, but this is one to add to your database: Reeds Auger Flighting Repair (Mike Reed) Laingsburg MI cell 517-614-1509, res. 517-651-7006. He hasn'r done any work for ME, but several of my customers rave about his work.
