If i have a damaged fire ring or if my head and sleeve is not down all the way would that make it knock on duetz d6006 engine

i dont know the sound but i have a bent fire ring and had a leaking head black smutty stuff blowing out the back cylinder

we use a lot of air compressors with Duetz motors and it sure made them knock when that fire ring went out. It did it real bad when they were
first started and the sound went away pretty quick. If I remember right , the new ring had to be lapped into place or they didn't seal right.
Somebody a heck of a lot smarter than I could tell you the procedure ..but yes it did make them knock at startup.

When a Deutz Head leaks they will have a "popping " sound when to rap the throttle. Most times the head next to the last from the front will leak the worst. This is the hottest running jug. The aluminum head can be relapped. You will need to turn them on a lathe if the torch marks are to deep. I always face them down to fit a fire ring if it is the old style without it. Fire rings come in different sizes to make up for the material you take off. Good luck,,, Al

When I was just starting out on my own I took an old jog and cut some reliefs in it and used lapping compound like you would on a old valve. I now a Jig for my lathe so I can turn the jug then fix the head. I would be glad to help you get this repaired if no one can help you out in your area. Good luck Al

Lapping compound is found at automotive stores like NAPA, and at machine tool suppliers like MSC. It can be in water based or oil/paste type, in several grit formulations fro course 120ish grit, to 2000 grit dust like polishing compound. I do not know the engine, or the ring, so suggestions would be futile. (guess, would be 250 to flatten the surfaces (rubbed together) and 400 to polish for a seal). Clean carefully after lapping with carb cleaner to remove all grit. Jim
