In my searches I have run across this site its rare I find a answer to what I am looking for there but I was down on my knees so what the ell lets give it a try...

I post my question and get a instant reply from a guy with close to 5K hits and is suppose to be a expert on Nissan's... I got the pattern answer I had found numerous times on the net to my problem but know one ever went into any useful details on how to narrow it down...

The issue is it was blowing the meter fuse, about 10 different things are powered off one 10 am fuse. Yes this is a tuff one he admitted he had never worked on anything older than a 2000 ( I am working on a 94) not could he help with Nisan terminology on how to read there wiring diagrams are locate splices :(.... All he could offer is what anyone could google up for that issue...

In time I ciphered it out I felt he did not help and I was not going to fall into there trap. The trap is they keep asking for more money If I wanted to call my expert, were it went from there I dunno.

I asked for a refund, I will give them credit they issued a refund that day... I am not saying its a bad deal but I can see were it could be a trap to get your money...

Hobo,

I, too, dislike the pay-me-now and I-may-help-you-later. I can figure things out myself, eventually.

That's exactly why I asked about the brake calipers I had been working on. This site has been wonderful in it's expanse and depth of knowledge. I gained the collective wisdom of many for the price of practicality nothing.

Sometimes I am unable to describe accurately, but sooner or later someone here will understand enough to get my meaning.

I, again, thank you for a previous response for me. I know it does little to assist you in the Nissan endeavor, but maybe I can help in the future.

D.

For $18 you can call me

You got lucky I have seen issues like yours get useless reply's... I will say the poster supplied useless information...You got a few that were from hands on folks :D.... Not like old that feed you B.S. then make up excuses that only satisfies him...

I have found that they just give you the "textbook" answers to your problem. I can figure that out without help let alone pay for that advice. I did get a good answer one time. I had a Chrysler minivan that had computer issues. They gave me a lot of inside info that helped me to solve it and complete the repair. Otherwise, they want you to pay for answers that in most cases are just pat answers from the manual. That kind of help I can get for FREE!!

There is a man on that site named Hank. He is very good with generator and RV issues. He has helped me and I him. He doesn't give up on you.But I have
seen on that site and a few others. People giving advice that clearly had no idea what they were talking about. Just give me some more money. So I can
tell you more BS.

Yes, but no help there either...

Like I said I know its a tuff'N I am not bashing the Nissan guru other than if he was not familiar with what I was working on he should have said so from the get go are let someone who was get some of the gravy...

I keep at it and figured the wiring diagrams out in Mitchell and Alldata that was a feat in its self...

What the meter fuse powers
1) Meter & gauge, warring lamps all in gauge cluster.
2) Interlock emergency relay (relay power to the relay coil)
3) Inhibitor Switch (Range Switch) on side of transmission it supply's power for the back up lights.
4) ASCD (have not located this in the wiring diagram nor do I know what it is)
5) ECM (have not located this in the wiring diagram)
6) Seat belt timer
7) Blower Relay (relay power to the relay coil)
8) Automatic Transmission Control System.
9) Charging system (supply's power to the alternator/Generator Waring bulb in cluster)
10) Starting system ( supply's the Inhibitor relay power to the replay coil) Power passes thru the Inhibitor switch in park are neutral to the inhibitor relay.

The fun part, there are basically three power wires that are feed off the Joint connector then some are spliced to those wires. That's why I elected to not cut it up at this time.

I found numerous places under the dash, in the engine bay and around the transmission that are rub thru nightmares but none that had actually rubbed thru... It was one of those vehicles that every thing that has been worked on was left hang'N and a danging...

I disconnected the Interlock module (it would come out of park EZ with it disconnected) installed a 10 amp circuit beaker in place of the meter fuse and its been good to go for a month... I tied up all the loose wiring and added insulation to areas of consern Its a extremely intermittent short :(

I should have let it ride BUT he wanted the front end rebuilt and I wanted that job...

Had a similar problem on a customers Cadillac.
One fuse feeding multiple circuits.
Did as you did and temporarily replaced fuse with resettable breaker to keep the juice flowing.
Took an infrared thermometer and was able to track down the offending circuit in the harness by following temp rise in the wiring and narrowed it down to power door lock circuit.

When I first started using a computer, it got onto "Just Ask" not sure if it was .com but most likely is. I quickly found out they knew less than I did except they wanted money. That was always a problem with IH service reps also. IH would hire a salesman and then give him the job of area service rep as well. Then you just get into a lot of big arguments. Cornered one at a service training session one time that I had talked over the phone to about a common problem and he said dealer would not get stuck with the bill, nor the customer. Well, we did and when I confronted him about it, in front of a few others, he smugly said he talked to the mechanic at that dealer and was told the tractor was never brought into the shop. I just said, yup, I'm the mechanic and I did the repair. He just turned red and walked away. Actually he was a carpenter by trade.

I'll let you all in on a little secret, well, maybe not a secret but who knows.

Whatever vehicle you are working on or are having problems with, go to Google and type in the search bar....for example....Ford Focus forums. There will be a list of forums come up, some good, some not so good. Spend a little time looking around and use the forum search function for your problem...someone will have run into it before.

You're welcome.

This may seem evil to some, strange to others but I actually enjoy wiring problems on vehicles. The biggest problems are when circuits go to modules or other devices where you don't really know what that component does with the circuit and how that can play into the problem, or circuits that feed many different devices.

It almost never fails though that a wiring short (usually intermittent) always seems to affect a fused circuit that supplies many different things and from one end of the car to other. The more difficult ones to find, you usually have to pick a spot or two somewhere in the circuit and isolate it. Either disconnecting the suspect load, find a connector to unplug or cut the power circuit in a easy spot to reconnect and add an inline fuse. Problem with circuit breakers is you might not know when they trip and reset, and they don't usually trip instantly unless its a solid and direct short to ground.
