Hearing is one thing, understanding the mumbling many young people call speech is another. I know I'm old but it seems like 2 skills that were necessary at one time, clear speech and cursive writing, are going by the wayside. OK, I'll just go take my meds and chill out.

Like my Daughter and many other young gals they talk so FAST and yet many times softly I cannot hear them.

Our county is bringing cursive writing back to the schools. At least someone has some common sense.

I have very seriously impaired hearing, so I avoid trying to communicate via the telephone because so many people nowadays simply do not speak clearly. I could chalk this up to my bad hearing, so I installed a "Caption Call" device--where the conversation is displayed on a screen. I've found that when I can't understand the other person the "machine" can't either.

I sure know what you are talking about Mike. I have a young niece that I just have to stop her and say "You are talking faster than your Uncle Tom can think," I was going accross the field the other day with the combine cutting soybeans when I was thinking that the machine is just making too much noise . Even opened the cab door and listened for something that just wasn't right. Suddenly I realized that I had my miracle ears turned up on high. Once I adjusted them that machine quieted right down and was running like a sewing machine.

I usually just shrug my shoulders and go on with what I was doing. I've found that 99% of what people say usually doesn't matter anyway.

my grandpa always said that & now that I can't hear either, I've found out he was right.
