Would ya'll please tell me again about charging a 8 volt battery with a 12 volt charger. I am ready to hook up an 8 volt and want to be darn sure what I am doing. I think I have the answer but please go over it for mr once again. I made it 84 years so far and dont want to get blown up by a wrong connection. Thanks Henry

Eight volt batteries never were the answer the answer and never will be. Either return to original six volts with heavy cables with crimped-on ends and good generator, regulator, and new wiring harness (needed for either 6 or 12 volts) or change to a complete 12 volt system with a good 6 volt starter again with good cables with crimped-on ends.

Regardless of what some may say I never had any trouble with a 12 volt on a 6 volt starter and a 12 volt generator or alt. This was on a Farm all 400. Armand

Henry, if a new-fangled Automatic charger, it my not work on an 8 v battery, but if an old simple one, all you need to do is limit the current. 12v chgr on 8v batt will try to run too high a current. Put a headlight bulb inline with one lead & monitor the current. Check batt voltage or specific gravity regularly & you will be OK.

Henry; Do you have a good 25 or 30 mfd capacitor? Hook it up with a parallel connection and a 6 volt charger. Should smooth the ripples out and get you close to 8 volts. Or tear your 6 volt charger down and put a full wave bridge rectifier in it that might get you 10 volts on the 6 volt side. Tom
