What Is It?

I was watching this video of a Farmall plowing, and at points you can see he is pulling some kind of wheel rake thing behind the plow? At the end it appears to be putting the straw/chaff INTO the furrow? Is it supposed to do that?

Very cool what ever it is... I just wanted to learn about it!!

Can't get to the video on that link. I think you are looking at an implement that was designed to pull behind the plow and move the straw off the next land pass to prevent plugging the plow with straw. Those were invented before the advent of straw choppers for combines. We couldn't afford one at the time, so we walked ahead when we got into heavy straw and kicked the straw over into the furrow so we could get the land plowed. The old low clearance plows of that period would plug pretty easy. It was better when they came out with high clearance plows later.

i was going to say the same suggestion, as those old plows sure are a pia due to too much straw.

I dragged one of those rakes around long enough to wear out 2 pipes ( the one in the furrow) did the job and it didnt pull to hard -- good old days ! Roy
