Are People Buying Used Tractors?

I see a lot of used tractors for sale online and at dealerships, but the prices are so high, it would make more sense to buy a new one, rather than a used one! IDK, maybe people are buying new instead of used. Two utility tractors, and I cannot sell them....just no interest. How are tractor sales in your part of the country?

Are yours 4x4 with a loader? Our local Kubota dealer is selling quite a few. 25% or so cheaper to begin with. And O% interest. For 5 years. Hard to compete with.

Spud,

I never visit the dealers who sell new tractors, so I have no idea how well things are going there. There is, however, a guy near here who sells all used equipment. I recently bought a 1963 Ford 4 cyliner diesel from him. He moves used tractors quite well.

I also have a friend who is an auctioneer. He sells tractors all of the time at his sales and they are virtually always sold for more than I think they are worth.

So, in this area at least, I think that used tractors are moving very well.

I just bought a used Farmall M last Thursday with wide front, power steering, live hydros and a loader with a push blade and a bucket with forks in nice shape. I spend a lot but it was still way cheaper than a down payment. Runs perfect!

I could sell the loader and the wide front and get my money back. No problem. Now I also have a Kubota utility tractor from around 1977. A while back I thought the hydro trans cooler got punched with a limb and had a hole. Kubota wanted something like $600 for that little cooler 2"x10". So some used stuff is not worth anything if you have to spend a ton to keep it running. I got lucky and found out there was no hole, just spilled oil from a squirt oil can shot got on it.

Used equipment is selling good. New is not. Low grain prices and low yields equal little money for new stuff. What do you have in utility tractors? Around here the 150 Horse Power tractors both with FWA and without sell pretty good.

I'm in the market for a hundred horse chore tractor. I'm being pretty picky. I've been to lots of sales lately and should have purchased about half of the tractors that sold. The used tractor market is pretty soft around here. Even the Deeres are going below their usual value. I let a 4040 go that I shouldn't have. I also let a 966 IH with cold air and a loader go at $5000. That was the dumbest. I think I will get an IH if I can, although all of my tractors over 50 horse are Deere.

Got an old TO-20 tractor, and a DB Case 995 tractor I have been trying to sell. Good running low hour tractors, just no interest. The local John Deere dealerships and Mahindra dealerships are running some great deals on their new 5 series utility tractors with as much as 5-6,000 off MSRP.

Used and new sells good around here (north Texas). I own a 1948 Ford 8N that I've had for about 20 years and I just bought a 1955 Ford 600 a few days ago. It needs some TLC work but I prefer to buy these old ones as they are much better built in my opinion and replacement parts are better priced, (usually). New tractors have too much plastic and thin steel and are way over priced. Now it would be nice to have a really low gear tractor as compared to these higher geared old fords but for what I do they "get er done". I figured I'd upgrade a little from the 8N to the 600. It does have a few more horses and independent hydraulics. I was hoping for live pto but it turned out it's a 640 so it's still manual pto like my 8N. But I'm cool with that too. All I do is mow my two acre homestead and blade my road and rip my garden deep in spring. Why spend $15000 for that. I spent $1850 on the 8N 20 years ago and it came with the brush hog and box blade and I have spent very little on replacement parts since, roughly a little less than $500.

The local John Deere dealership just had their "Drive Green" sales event. A 2015 JD 5045E, 2wd tractor you could buy for $14,000 out the door....

If you're talking about that 4040 that was at the auction a couple weeks ago. I wanted it as well. It was having pto problems and for what it sold for was enough to make me walk. It sure looked nice but I'm guessing it was going to need a lot of work. Anything that auctioneer sells has to be examined very close. I've noticed that the more he brags something up the more he's trying to hide something about it.

Sold 2N yesterday at a TSC event. S# missing. $2500.

Perhaps the lack of interest in used tractors is dying off. Yep us old farms boys are dying off.

Both of my kids live in sub divisions and have no need for a tractor. Not to meniton HOA won't allow them to be parked outside or a pole barn in back yard.

I'm hoping my kids will move to the country so when I'm gone they enjoy my toys. Instead they are more concerned about living in places where there are the best schools for grandkids.

(quoted from post at 08:40:01 09/20/15) I have the tractors posted here on the photo ads section & Craigslist.

Your 995 in Michigan??? only 995 I can find... Let me critique that add... Price is top of market for a perfect tractor. From the limited pictures I can tell yours isn't. Lights are smashed off fenders, dents in the noise piece, miss-matched tires. and that is just what I can see from the front picture.

Add in that 25% of the gears don't work or you can't find them and it doesn't inspire much confidence(they are 12F-4R).

I see a tractor that might sell at $3000-3500 around here.

About right I was at an auction yesterday they sold a DB 990 with a post driver on the front, everything operated and ran fine looked pretty good bought $2800,saw a 990 sell about a month ago at a consignment sale ran good looked good bought $2200.

Bought this nice MF 50 a couple weeks ago for $ 1800 and sold a week later for $ 2800 and sold the JD weights off for $ 200. Very nice tractor with great rubber and back blade and chains. Old owner bought new Kabota ( $ 23000 ). Could have probably got $ 3200 out of it but sold it to a friend. Great tractor, everyone wins on this one. Few and far between tho , not many good ones left out there.
