I usually get a cup of coffee in the morning at the house, but,,Im trying to slow down on coffee drinking.Didnt have enough will power the other day so I stopped in a McDonalds to grab a cup. In line in front of me was a group of five young boys, around 17/18 years old. They were placing their orders ,talking with each others etc.I saw a penny on the floor, they all stepped on it ,kicked it a bit,,,,never picked it up. When this old man was next, and the penny was under his feet,he picked it up.Ill bend down and pick up pennys all day long....lol

For mom to give a penny for a gumball when shopping was a rare treat,I Remember too! The gumballs were 1 cent, and pretty big,now they are 25 cents!

I picked up a dime a few days ago, pennies are not worth the risk of twisting your back! They should of been eliminated years ago along with Saturday mail delivery!

Years ago before ATM's, a buddy and I were at a beer tent after a tractor pull. Towards the end of a perfect beer drinking event we were one penny short between the two of us to buy one last beer which we would split. We gleaned the grass floor without luck looking for one lousy penny as the bar tenders insisted on full payment.BTW, the reason we were short, buddy announced he had no money after we arrived to entrance gate and I had to pay his way in$15/$20, which was big bucks in mid 70's. Pull was at Heart of Illinois Fair Peoria Il and things got really rowdy as evening was ending, which I later am glad we had to leave as we were broke. Punks/jerks were pushing occupied porta potty's over on their doors as we were walking out!

When I was a kid, bottle refund was a penny, either would get me 2 .22 shells at Western Auto. I picked up the bottles on the way to town, usually enough shells to fill the old winchester and a bottle of Hires for the way home....James

I'm only 30 and I pick up every coin I see. I used to make fun of all my coworkers for leaving pennies and nickels on the floor but now I enjoy all the money I find. I bet on average I find 20 cents a week. I know it's not much but the quarter I found the other day was a older 1964 made with silver. It was a nice $2.50 to find.

My wife works at Wally-World here in Lowville. She says the store gets several dollars worth of Canadian pennies each week. Seems all of the Canadians who still have them are bringing them to the US to use them.

Believe me, they add up over a lifetime. I have about eight gallons of pennies, and I ain't dead yet.

When I was stationed in Germany during the mid-80's, everything on base was rounded up or down to the nearest nickle. It was great, no pennies. However, overseas military bases were and maybe still are where the unpopular currencies like the $2 bill and Susan B. Anthony dollars end up. If I had saved every crisp new $2 bill or Susan B. that passed through my fingers over there, I'd be wealthy. Back then, they used to charge a quarter for a can of pop out of the vending machine in the barracks. One night me and some buddies staggered in after a night of drinking, but were done yet. We had rum, and bourbon, just needed Cokes, so I staggered to the pop machine and bought four Cokes at 25 cents a piece, using four Susan B.s because they looked like quarters to me. What a deal.

Always throw my pennies in a plastic foldgers can in the garage, took the full can to the bank this spring and scored 28 dollars and something.
