Bought 1086 2 years ago had only minor problems so far front end rebuild a/c etc but the other day I was pulling 12' ft disk and it just lost all power and quit pulling I downshifted and it take off or if I raised the disk. I assume it's the clutch slipping but there hasn't been any smell of clutch burning up. I know nothing about the ta's it does work but I never used it before love always left it it in high. I don't know if it could be a bad pump ta clutch or combination of some or all them any help would be great really don't want to break it in half with out knowing I have to thanks

Overfill the rear end / hydraulic fiuld by 5 gallons and try that.

Were you in hills when this was happening?

I was pulling slight incline I've heard the extra fluid gonna do it in the morning after I change all filters tomorrow. Would a failing pump cause any of this.

Could be a bad pump but if the suction pipe oring is sucking air it will stop as well. 5 extra gallons doesn't hurt a thing and gets the oil above the oring.

I have been running one that way for 10 years nor more.

This post might get more attention on the IH board. There are some good old IH mechanics who lurk there. I have some ideas about your situation but I don't know what I'm talking about enough to give an educated answer.

Having spent hundreds of hours on a 1086, I can be pretty sure in telling you it is the clutch. TA will stop in the low side when it is going out.

If there is low pressure to the TA on the high side it will stop but other hydraulics will usually start acting up too if that happens.

First thing to check is the fuel shut-off connection on the outside of the pump. I'm not familiar with a 1086, but one day my very peppy 826 just got weak. The connection on the fuel shut-off had loosened and slipped. Thirty seconds with a small
straight screwdriver and the old girl was peppy again.

If the low side of the TA works, the tractor will pull without any hydraulics what so ever. So, if the tractor stops moving forward and you say TA works in low range, you have a slipping clutch. First reading of your problem sounds like the engine lost power. Then it sounded like tractor quit moving. I am slightly confused, but I am pretty old.

The ta stays on the high side when I would get to a slight incline pulling the disk and I'm talking very little incline the tractor would slowly come to a stop like you pushed the clutch in rpms stayed the same everything stayed the same raise the disk or down shift and it would take off. I was pulling the disk in 3rd gear ta on high side. It's done before driving it home in road gear with nothing behind it

The ta works fine treys it out yesterday it was pretty low on hyd oil about 1 1/2" on the dipstick going today to get hy-tran and switch it out, I'm not sure what's in it now the oil looked new when I got it so skipped draining it and just changed filter. Could being low on hyd oil be the
