Question on hydraulic pump

I am looking for a hydraulic pump with a SAE A flange. The gear pumps limit out at about 1.6 cu in per rotation, but the vane pumps go up quite a bit more. What is the operational difference between the 2 types?

I would GUESS a vane pump will be more expensive, in general, and an interesting operating characteristic is that they typically load the starter less during cranking than a gear pump, as they don't build pressure 'til centrifugal force throws the vanes outward.

Outside of that, you would have to look at the individual spec sheets as to max operating speed and pressure for each specific pump.
