Wanting a bigger tractor

I'm in the market for a 130-160 hp tractor. Not a farmer, but do a number of plow days in the fall. Yeah, it's silly, but that's what I want. I'm not particular about brand. Deere will be out of my budget, and IH would probably be junk for what I'm willing to pay. Looking at other brands, like Case, White, AC, Ford, or whatever. the 1370 Case would be a good fit, and I've owned a few Cases in the past. I also like the AC 7040, 7050, etc. 9600 Ford would work, if I could find one. Looking for some opinions about the different brands from the 1970s in this horsepower range.

At the age you are wanting,Any in good shape that you can afford will work.Just find whats available, pick a 'color' and go.However,I personally would like any one of a 1030CaseCK,Oliver 1950T,JD 4320,Ford 8600,IH 1206/856/1256/1456.I've run all of them at one time or another, except the Case 1030.Just like em.

The yellow and orange case 1070-1370 are some real nice looking tractors, thats what I would go for on a budget, and I'm a Deere guy.

DeltaRed. I have a 1030CK for sale now. That's the one I'm replacing. Had a 1070 at one time, two 930s, and have a 900 now. Looked at a nice 2290 today, coming up on auction. I'm afraid it will be over budget, but gonna have to watch it sell.

Wijim, here's the 1175 I used to have, sold it about 3 years ago. Kinda regretting that move. Made about 500hp, and would pull 7th gear anywhere, Sure was fun.

Sorry,I wouldn't own a 1070 if(or any 70 series) if you paid me. Ran two different ones.Biggest POS of any tractor I've ever seen/used. Hopefully a 1030 isnt like that...I think they look so awsome!

I would go Case or MM for bang for the buck. That being said, I think it is most important to go with big cubic inches. For that Hp I wouldn't get anything with less than 500 cubes. Some of the makes you listed just take a 300-400 cube engine and turbo it up and run 25-2800 rpm to make their rated power. You want no less than a 5" stroke , no less than 500-600 cubes and preferably a straight gear type trans. These things are 40-50 yrs old now, you don't want a screamer with automatic trans, unless you are looking for work. G-1000,s are a bargain as are 70 Cases. My pick for value/power/longevity/looks would be 1175 Case , straight gears / big engine / outboard planetaries and most were open station. I assume you wanted 2wd,didn't say. If you look carefully, I still think you could get a descent JD 5020 for under $ 10,000 with aftermarket turbo or non-turbo for $ 7500 and put a turbo on for anywhere from 140-155 hp with stock engine. As for price, anything descent with that HP is going to be close to $ 10,000 unless you get a "western" "wheatland" model without 3 pt. (lots of hard hours)
