Farmall H Engine Removal - Engine wont come loose

Hey guys!

So, today I'm removing the stock engine from my late model Farmall H. Or atleast I'm trying too, I for the life of me cant get this stupid thing to come loose!

I've removed the starter, the long random bolt hidden beside the starter (WTH, International?!?), and of course the frame and visable frame bolts.

Its still stuck like this! Any ideas? Am I missing something? How should I yank this out?!?!?

Thanks in advance

theres dowel pins thru the engine plate that aligns the engine into the bellhousing. they look like bolts sticking out with heads cut off, but youll see threads. screw a nut on to them n remove the dowels n itll fall right out. i was going to mention the bolt inside the starter hole too. lol

Hello Lance,

It looks like the top of the tranny is 100% tight! Could there be a bolt accessible from the inside of that cover?

Guido.

This may be a dumb question but could the clutch be frozen or stuck to the pressure plate. Would that prevent it from coming out.

If you have already removed the hidden bolt etc... you will need to manipulate the engine with a hoist a bit...raise it, lower it etc to find the angle it wants to move at. A large sledge hammer above the bell housing would be good for tapping it loose too....my best tools for spreading the plate apart are the 6 to 8 inch wonder bars...tap them in and then work to the larger wonder bars to pry it loose...it will come, be patient and just get it done.

Looks like you still have a bolt left in there. Did you remove the bolt INSIDE the starter hole? it is 1/2".Uses a 3/4" socket.Or is it just 'bound up'? Place a jack under the center and jack up,close that crack. It may come apart if the 'bind' is relieved.

If I remember correctly there's a long bolt through the top of the clutch housing. I think it's a 1/2" x 7 or 8 inches long. Have you remove it?
Square the engine up with the clutch housing and remove it evenly all the way around. From the picture it looks like you are forcing it too much. Something is going to break.

Well, ##%#$^@$#* there was one more bolt under 1/2" of grease and crap just above the clutch. To anyone who finds this post years from now in an internet search, you have to remove the starter, the long bolt beside the starter, then one more bolt from inside the casting, through the starter hole, just above the flywheel.

THANKS GUYS!!! :)

P/S anyone in the Fort Worth area need a Farmall H engine? I need to sell this thing! Ran when removed...

Now why would you remove a good running engine and sell it ? why not just sell the whole tractor ?

It ran just fine! I'm in the process of swapping a chevy V8 into this tractor, and it was cheaper for me to buy this tractor (with its excellent condition tires), and sell the engine, than it was to buy a clunker and put new tires on it.

It didnt smoke, it didnt knock, its a good engine! I'm selling it with the tractors radiator and EVERYTHING, I'm literally just keeping the clutch disc. Everything else, is with it. Its a package deal, I need it out of my shop. If you're interested, please email me!

You might be in for even more headaches. I might be wrong, but I don't think a Chevy V8 will fit between the frame rails of an H. You need an M for a swap of that nature.

Oh, and if you CAN make it fit, you'll need to use the flywheel from the H, so you can use the original H starter. No way will the Chevy starter fit.
